Back From the Holiday Break? Hotel Horror Stories Could Earn Travelers
up to $40,000 in Vacations as HomeAway Contest Enters Final Week

Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, stars of the 1980s comedy ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation,’ to select winning entries

Austin, TX, February 23, 2010 — HomeAway® – the world’s leading online vacation rental marketplace – is asking travelers to share their stories of hotel horrors for the chance to win one of four $10,000 family vacations at a private, spacious HomeAway vacation rental.

Contest entries will be voted on by the general public, and finalists will be judged by the king and queen of travel mishaps – Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, who recently reprised their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold from “National Lampoon’s Vacation” for a new HomeAway advertising campaign.


Consumers can submit a short text, video or photo entry at, and participants may enter any of four themed categories, including:

  • “Outrageous Hotel Bills”
  • “I Wish I Had a Kitchen”
  • “Cramped Hotel Quarters”
  • “Other Hotel Woes”

The public is invited to vote on the stories they think are the worst hotel horrors between March 2 and March 9, 2010. The 10 entries with the most votes in each of the four categories will be reviewed by a panel of judges consisting of Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo and HomeAway CEO Brian Sharples, who will select one grand prize winner in each category. Winners will be announced on or about March 16, 2010.
