Another museum, the Sanibel Historic Museum and Village strives to preserve the history of the island. It starts with exhibits that tell the tales of the first Spanish settlers and continues to the 1800s and the pioneers who lived on Sanibel Island at that time. Seven buildings were moved to the museum from different parts of the island. They were restored to look the way they did during the period they were built. These buildings encompass the village portion of the museum and can be visited by museum guests.
