Stay in Condos on Hutchinson Island

Hutchinson Island, Florida, is a barrier island on the south central Atlantic coastline of the state. Known for its family-friendly beaches and relatively calm waters, Hutchinson Island is also a place where people come to enjoy some of Florida's seafaring birds and turtles. You can stay in condos, rental houses and cottages in Hutchinson Island during your visit. The condos offer amenities including private terraces or balconies, full-size kitchens and private swimming pools for cooling off after a day in the sunshine.

Hutchinson Island offers many events for locals and visitors throughout the year. The Riverwalk Jazz Series takes place on the first Sunday of each month and features a different local band during every event. The popular Rockin' Riverwalk Music Series is held on the third Sunday of every month. During these events, a local rock and roll band comes to play outdoors near the pier. You can listen on the ground or from your car or boat. You could drive down to the southernmost part of Florida and stay at houses for rent in the Florida Keys while visiting the annual Conch Republic Independence Celebration in April. Some other great events to enjoy on Hutchinson Island include:

  • The Jazz & Blues Society Arts and Crafts Show: Browse the offerings of local artisans every Saturday morning.
  • MusicFest: On the third Friday of each month, this event includes live music, food and kids' activities.
  • Friday FestHeld at Fort Pierce on the Marina, this event includes arts and crafts, food and music on the last Friday of the month.

Hutchinson Island's beaches stretch for 23 miles around the barrier island. At House of Refuge Beach, you can climb rocky outcroppings to get a great view of the Atlantic Ocean. On Bathtub Reef Beach, the water is shallow, and there are few waves, making the location ideal for snorkeling and for young swimmers who want to splash and play in the water. Bryn Mawr Beach is known to be a great spot for wildlife watching. If you like collecting seashells, take the drive to villas for rent on Sanibel Island and visit the beach just between Sanibel and Captiva Island on Florida's south-central Gulf Coast.

Outdoor Activities

Water sports are the most popular outdoor activities to do on Hutchinson Island. You can rent fishing poles or a canoe from the pier and spend a relaxing day fishing. Boat tours of the coastline are also available from a variety of private companies. The beaches are also ideal for snorkeling and surfing. Within 10 miles of the island are more than a dozen golf courses with 9 or 18 holes. If you would like to watch the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico, try a dinner tour on a private boat while staying at rental houses in Fort Myers.

The best time to visit Hutchinson Island is from November through February, as the weather is warm, beaches are not yet crowded with spring break visitors and the ocean is usually calm.
