Find the best place to stay — Snohomish

A veritably venerable vintage vacation

Dust off your derby hat and pass a clothes brush over that flannel waistcoat for a visit to the 'antique capital of the Northwest.' Snohomish's beautifully preserved historic old town is a postcard-perfect snapshot of the America that was. But a Snohomish vacation rental is about more than charismatic architecture and kooky little shops and galleries. Puget Sound and the mountains and forests of the great outdoors are within easy striking distance, or if you're more about creature comforts, Snohomish has all the craft breweries and coffee culture that you'd associate with this corner of the Pacific Northwest.

Get out of town - or don't

Outdoor activities are huge up here, and a Snohomish vacation rental makes the perfect base for a big northwestern adventure. The Cascade mountains are just a hop-skip in one direction, and you've got water activities and whale watching on Puget sound in the other. But with so much going on in Snohomish itself, you might not feel like getting out of town at all. The city has a hectic programme of events, many with a vintage-inspired nod to its historic old town. From tweed-clad bike rides to wine tastings, music festivals, and classic car rallies, you're sure to find something that's up your alley.

The 'antique capital of the Northwest'

Take a turn through the old world, and maybe buy a little piece of it to take home with you. The handsome streets of Snohomish old town are a mecca for antique dealers and other cute little independent shops. And if those aren't enough feathers in its chic vintage cap, there are also art galleries, local history museums, and even a tiny thumbnail theater. Best of all, when you're done getting your fill of culture, you can start getting to grips with the city's dizzying range of microbreweries, distilleries, restaurants, and cool little cafes.

Sou'westers ahoy in Snohomish

Anyone who comes up to this corner of the U.S. knows the deal. It's going to be a bit wet, so suit up with the slicker and sou'wester. But you might be surprised to know that Snohomish County isn't quite as rainy as some of its neighbors, thanks to some welcome shelter from the Olympic Mountains, which block some of what comes in off the Pacific. Otherwise it's a pretty comfortable climate year-round, with mild winters and airy summers. Venture east into the Cascades or out west onto Puget Sound and things might get a bit spicier.

Go into raptures over the raptors, and wail over the whales

You're bound to see some stuffed hawks while you're on your Snohomish vacation rental, but you might just see some real ones too. Snohomish County is the perfect place for nature lovers. Over in the more sparsely populated east of the county you've got the Cascades and Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, home to more glaciers than any other national forest outside Alaska. Head west and you've got that big wet expanse of Puget Sound, where there are fish, seabirds, seals, and harbor porpoises to look out for - though the real celebrities are the orcas.
