Ridgeway hosts a variety of special events throughout the year. For summer visitors, there is a Farmer’s Market every Friday, a number of rodeos, and a free concert series throughout July. Participate in the Annual Ridgeway River Festival in June with races, live music, food and a barn dance. For the athlete, there is a myriad of running races, bike rides, and golf tournaments to enjoy.
The beauty and natural vistas of the Ouray Valley provides great inspiration for artists and creatives. Visit the Weehawken Creative Arts Center, and participate in a range of classes and programs to bring out your inner artist, writer, singer, or songwriter! The Sherbino Theater offers shows, films, and community events throughout the year as well. The theater was built over 100 years ago and has been renovated and kept running thanks to local volunteers.
Ridgeway has long been known at the birthplace of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad, a critical piece in America’s westward expansion. Visitors can learn more about the history of the railroad at the Ridgeway Railroad Museum or attend one of its many events throughout the year. If you are visiting in September, be sure to participate in the Ouray County Railroad Days Festival which includes historical demonstrations, talks, and hikes celebrating Ridgeway’s railroad heritage.
Ridgeway is a great place to visit all year round. Winter temperatures are perfect for skiing and snow sports, and summer temperatures average in the low 80s, perfect for outdoor adventures. The area usually sees snow from October to May so visitors should plan accordingly based on what activities they would like to enjoy.
Ridgeway is well off the beaten path, but it is easily accessible by plane or car. The closest airport served by scheduled airlines is the Montrose Regional Airport located 28 miles to the north of the town. The airport offers rental car services. Visitors can also travel to Ridgeway via privately owned vehicle on several nearby major highways. The town lies at the intersection of US Highway 550 and State Highway 62. The closest Interstate in I-70 to the north in Grand Junction. From there, take State Highway 50 to 550 in Montrose.
