    The beach is divided into two areas by a peninsula that is home to a lighthouse. The Long Sands Beach is to the south and Short Sands is to the north. As their names imply, the Long Sands Beach is larger than the Short Sands Beach though both have their advantages. Long Sands beach has a designated area for surfing. Both beaches have metered parking areas, but it is harder to find a spot at Long Sands Beach. Both beaches also have their own bathhouses and lifeguards on duty from late June to Memorial Day. If you wish to fly into the area, the Portsmouth International Airport in New Hampshire is the closest. It is only about 15 miles from York Beach. Train travelers can get off of the train in Wells, Maine, only 11 miles from York Beach. This is a fun beach town to visit.
