Aubagne's most famous museum is The French Foreign Legion Museum, dedicated to the country's military accomplishments. If you prefer to explore the city's art scene, visit The Therese Neveu Studio, which explores the artist's life and her "santons"—French nativity figurines famous to the area. You can also find a variety of wineries in and around Aubagne, as well as pastis distilleries, where you can get a first-hand look (and taste!) of how they make this famous anise-flavored liqueur. Keep this in mind when sorting through the locations of Aubagne vacation rentals.
There's much to do in Aubagne, but if shopping is high on your list, don't leave town without an item or two from a local potter or ceramicist. There are a variety of shops and galleries dedicated to this local pastime—one that has been key to the area since 600 BCE. There are a variety of markets that happen throughout the week on the main street of the village, so be sure to set aside time to shop the stalls and pick up wares, perfect for the fully-stocked kitchens in most Aubagne vacation rentals.
Aubagne is best enjoyed from April through June, and September through October, when crowds are lighter and prices are lower. July and August are packed with people looking for a respite from the heat, or passing through en route to the coast. Because of Aubagne's famous "santon" collection, you can also expect to find this market town full of visitors in November and December, eager to stock up on the famous nativity scenes before Christmas. Things quiet down considerably from January through March, when the weather is damp and gray, but plenty of deals can be found.
