The North West coastline of Florida has a humid subtropical climate marked with four distinct seasons. Short hot summers peak in July with temperatures averaging in the low 80s, and mild winters with January temperatures averaging in the low 50s provide reasonably comfortable conditions for enjoying outdoor activities year round. This region experiences frequent but brief thunderstorms and potent rain showers during the summer that rarely develop into serious events. The difference in this region's climate is reflected in the terrain, which is populated with a variety of oak trees and plants not seen in the Florida peninsula.
The North West region of Florida is easily accessed by car from Interstate 10, which runs east and west through the region. It cuts through the northern area of Tallahassee and eventually ends in Jacksonville. U.S. Route 331 crosses the I-10 and runs south through Freeport, providing access to Miramar Beach, Destin, and the neighboring coastal communities.
The most popular means for entering the region for national and international travelers are the Pensacola and Tallahassee International Airports. Rental cars, Greyhound, and Megabus lines are available for inter-city travel.
