The quaint and quiet community of Neskowin is a small unincorporated settlement in Tillamook County. The 2000 census placed the population at 169. Neskowin is located on the rainy Oregon coast, about nine miles south of Pacific City. Neskowin has intriguing natural features and partakes in local annual events that attract visitors throughout the year, like the Annual Tillamook County Fair, but this charming settlement is not a town with spectacular tourist attractions and luxurious hotels.
You'll find cozy rental homes and condos near the ocean with waterfront views, cabins, a chalet, an estate, a townhome and a studio apartment near the ocean-side golf course. Come to Neskowin to enjoy peace, quiet, and attune your spirit with the fertility of nature.
Take a stroll around the majestic Proposal Rock Island, which acquired its name in tribute to a sea captain's proposal to his long adored sweetheart on the unique rock. Take a long walk down ever-unfolding stretches of soft white sand shoreline, or step lightly through the mysterious Neskowin Ghost Forest at low tide in winter. It is part of the Neskowin Beach State Recreation Site.
The Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge was created in 1991 and opened for public viewing in 2008 after two parking lots were constructed. The small upper lot has handicap access. The refuge now has public restroom facilities in its parking lots and a paved path that winds through a lush marshy landscape. After a short 10-minute walk, the path leads to an impressive observation platform with awe-inspiring views of the region, the Nestucca River, and abundant wildlife and wildflowers during the summer months. The entrance to the refuge is found on Highway 101 just north of Neskowin.
The Neskowin Beach Golf Course was formerly known as Neskowin Marsh Golf Course. This public course by the beach was designed by Ercel Kay, and it opened in 1932. It has nine holes and two levels of tees to accommodate different levels of skill. It is open from May through November.
In early August, The Annual Tillamook County Fair brings three days of raucous family fun to Tillamook County with country and rock & roll music concerts, a magician, hypnotist, balloon artist, and featured annual events, including:
You can count on having the freshest of seafood dishes wherever you dine in this community. If you'd like to cook your own meal and spend a quiet night in, the Neskowin Market Pub carries a broad variety of fine gourmet groceries, wines, great take and bake pizzas, and high-quality casual foods. Tourists and locals enjoy socializing at their intimate pub. Favorite restaurants and cafes include:
Neskowin has a mild wet climate with foggy nights and mornings. Temperatures average in the 50s during the day with a few days occasionally peaking up into the high 90s, and lows in the 40s at night all year.
