Enjoy a Carefree Lifestyle in Your Bald Head Island Vacation Home

Situated in far south North Carolina just a few miles from the Frying Pan Shoals, Bald Head Island is a popular vacation destination for those who want to get away from it all. Disconnected from the mainland and accessible only by ferry, you will feel instantly at peace when you make your way to this lovely island. The best home away from home on Bald Head Island is a vacation rental home. Many vacation rental homes on the island boast beachfront access as well as spacious bedrooms, full kitchens, decks or balconies and other amenities that will foster an amazing vacation experience.

    Outdoor Recreation

When you visit beautiful coastal North Carolina, you likely have plans to spend ample time outdoors enjoying the beauty and splendor of the area, and there is much to enjoy while touring this area. Many people love to spend time relaxing on the beaches, and there are adventure experiences available as well. For example, you can go kayaking to explore the coastline on your own, or you can take a deep sea fishing charter for a half-day or full-day of fun on the water.

Sightseeing and learning more about the local area is also popular, and there is much to see and do away from the water as well. When you visit North Topsail Beach, Bald Head Island or other areas close to the island, you may want to spend time touring the famous Bald Head Island Lighthouse, which is located on the western end of the island. There is also a museum for you to explore that provides you with more information about the local community. You can also tour other fascinating venues, such as the Bald Head Island Information Center.

    Spa Experiences

A vacation simply would not be a vacation without spending time pampering yourself at one of the local spas. The Island Retreat Spa & Salon is one of the top choices in the areas, and you can get a massage, a facial, a pedicure, a manicure or other pampering treatments here. This is the perfect vacation experience for those who want to unwind and de-stress while at the coast.

The weather in Bald Head Island is typically rather mild and humid because of its location right on the Atlantic coast. As is the case with much of the coast of North Carolina, Bald Head Island has a humid subtropical climate with four distinctive seasons. The winters are often mild with brief, light or infrequent snowfall. The average high in the winter months is in the 50s with average lows in the 30s. Summer is a time for high levels of humidity. Average high temperatures in the summer are in the 80s and 90s, and lows are in the 70s. This is often the wettest time of the year because of tropical storms and hurricanes that may pass through or near the area from time to time. The driest month is usually April.

    How to Get There

Because Bald Head Island does not have a bridge leading to it or an airport on the island, the main method of transportation is via ferry service. You can fly into Wilmington's airport and rent a car, or you can drive your own vehicle into the airport. From there, you can travel south on Highway 17 to connect to Highway 87 south. Highway 87 connects to Route 277, which is the road that leads to the ferry service to the island.
