Charlotte vacation rentals

Charlotte’s cultural treasures

Charlotte has long been one of North Carolina’s most prosperous cities, thanks in large part to the number of prestigious multinational companies that have taken root there. The city also has an enviable reputation for sporting prowess, with the Charlotte Hornets, Carolina Panthers, and NASCAR Hall of Fame all established within its environs. In recent years, however, it’s the booming cultural scene that has driven demand for Charlotte vacation rentals. An assortment of museums and art galleries are found in the city, while the Carolina Renaissance Festival, held on weekends in October and November, is one of the largest and most popular of its kind.

The adventure’s on in Charlotte

An enduring favorite of families and thrill-seekers, the U.S. National Whitewater Center offers an unrivalled range of outdoor activities for holidaymakers. The facility boasts over 30 miles of trails, with kayaking, white-water rafting, paddleboarding, rock climbing, and zip lining all on the menu. Competitions are held throughout the year, giving you the chance to test your mettle in triathlons, ultra-marathons, and more. During the summer, you can relax at a River Jam concert. Held on Thursdays and Saturdays from May through September, with 9 additional festivals at regular intervals, these gatherings are a great way to chill out as your adventure winds down.

Artful Charlotte

The whimsical terracotta exterior of the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art on South Tryon Street is immediately arresting. Designed by the eminent architect Mario Botta, the building is itself a work of art, perfectly reflecting the masterpieces that it houses. Pieces by Warhol, Giacometti, and Miró, among countless other 20th century masters, take pride of place in the halls of this venerable institution, while photographs and letters illustrate the close relationship between the Bechtler family and many of the artists. The museum is open 6 days a week, closed Tuesdays.

Sunshine over Charlotte

The Piedmont region’s humid subtropical climate promises hot, balmy summers that are perfect for sun-seekers. During this period, demand for Charlotte vacation rentals rises, so booking early is essential. Winter is short and generally cool, but the brave traveler will benefit from shorter queues at the city’s top cultural venues and a better chance of finding a good deal on a Charlotte vacation rental. Fall is typically the driest period of the year, so it’s also worth considering, especially for those looking to stroll through the area’s many parks as the leaves take on their autumnal hues.

The tranquil side of Charlotte

North Carolina’s breathtaking natural beauty is on full display at the Latta Plantation Nature Center and Preserve, located around 30 minutes from most downtown Charlotte vacation rentals. This preserve is home to the Carolina Raptor Center, which boasts the largest eagle aviary in the Southeast, as well as many other birds of prey. You can also visit the Backyard Habitat Garden, where bird-feeding stations and butterfly gardens are always a hit with kids, or check out the 18 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails for some independent exploration.
