Tennessee Destination Overview

Home to a broad array of different cities with an even more expansive catalog of cultural offerings, Tennessee blends down-home southern hospitality with the incredible scenery and natural landscapes as well as a phenomenal live music scene and deeply satisfying culinary culture. No matter why you choose to come to Tennessee, make sure you afford yourself enough time to check out Nashville, Memphis and Gatlinburg.

At the heart of it all in Nashville

Tennessee's largest city truly offers something for everyone. From its absolutely magnificent music scene to its fantastic local coffee which, when consumed by Theodore Roosevelt, caused him to coin the phrase "good to the last drop," Nashville is sure to charm individuals from all walks of life.

Music:

No matter where you go in Nashville, you aren't far from great music. Those looking to take a walk down memory lane might want to try out the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, where they'll be able to learn about everything from The Wrecking Crew to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. If it's a high-energy night you're after, you shouldn't have a hard time finding a show at any of the more than 120 live music venues downtown.

Art:

Though home to an artistic community year-round, each October Nashville celebrates "Artober," a month-long celebration of all that makes Nashville so creative and wonderful. From gallery openings to street performances, this festival has something for anyone who's an artist at heart.

Parthenon Nashville:

Unbeknownst to many, Nashville is the home of the only full-scale replica of the Parthenon from Athens, Greece. This statue is the largest in the western world at 42-feet tall, the replica is located in Nashville's scenic Centennial Park. This makes a wonderful stop for any history buff passing through Tennessee.

Walking in Memphis

Located just south of where the Wolf and Mississippi rivers meet, Memphis is a city of outstanding natural beauty. Whether you're visiting for the extraordinary cuisine, rich musical history or to learn about the city's integral role in the civil rights movement, you're sure to remember Memphis.

Phenomenal food:

Come for the food and, in all seriousness, stay for the food, too. Memphis features a plethora of incredible food spots where you can get cuisine not replicated anywhere else in the world. The foodies in your group will want to try Chef Kelly English's restaurant, Restaurant Iris, where you can order a New York strip steak stuffed with fried oysters.

Musical history:

Memphis is known as both the "birthplace of rock and roll" and the "home of the blues," and the city makes every effort to celebrate that. With a free shuttle service to Graceland, Sun Studio and the Rock 'n' Soul museum, Memphis a music lover's dream.

The fight for freedom:

Memphis played an integral role in the American civil rights movement and has made a strong effort to preserve that history. Offering free or reduced admission several days a week, the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis is an important stop to hit along your vacation route.

Mountain living in Gatlinburg

Those looking for a more relaxed vacation will find their desired down-home hospitality in Gatlinburg. A resort town with a population of fewer than 5,000, Gatlinburg offers a laid-back lifestyle that simply can't be found in many cities set amongst a gorgeous backdrop of wilderness and adventure.

Get up, get out:

A trip to Gatlinburg would be wasted without capitalizing on the areas incredible array of options for wilderness entertainment. The doorway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg connects to over 600 miles of hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails. The small town also provides a broad range of options for golfing, whitewater rafting and fishing.

Grab something cold:

If you're coming to Gatlinburg with a group of people at least 21 years old, then you're in for a treat. Home to three wineries, several craft breweries and even a distillery where you can sample moonshine (white lightning, as the locals call it), Gatlinburg is at no shortage for quality libations.

Rustic romance:

The small, mountain-town setting of Gatlinburg makes it a perfect intimate retreat for couples from all walks of life. In fact, more couples get married in Gatlinburg than anywhere else in the south. Come see why!
