Poconos Destination Guide

There are plenty of reasons to plan a visit to the Poconos. Depending on the time of the year, you’ll get a whole new experience in the Poconos. Spanning roughly 2,400 square miles, the Pocono Mountains include rolling mountain landscapes, cascading waterfalls, 170 miles of riverways, 261 miles of hiking and biking trails and much more. Whether you’re here to relax in the midst of nature, or you’re looking to explore the great outdoors, the Poconos have something exciting in store for you. But the Poconos have more to offer than beautiful scenery, this region is teeming with deep-rooted history, exciting arts and entertainment and a spectacular culinary scene.

Top Attractions

Waterfalls: Cascading waterfalls are a common sight in the Poconos, but that doesn’t take away from their splendor. Head to the Bushkill Falls, commonly referred to as “The Niagara of Pennsylvania,” which features eight waterfalls that were opened as a park in 1904. Here you can traverse through the extensive network of hiking trails that lead you to the waterfalls and offer stunning views of the lush forest.

Asa Packer Mansion: Built in 1861 in Victorian Italianate architecture, the Asa Packer Mansion is simply stunning. This three-story home features 18 rooms, 11,000 square feet of living space and a strong, cast iron frame. If you think this house is big for today, just imagine what people thought when it was constructed!

Historic Stone Row: Throughout the Poconos region, history is deeply rooted and it will be very apparent within moments of walking through a town. The Historic Stone Row is comprised of 16 row houses that were constructed for engineers and foremen of the Lehigh Valley Railroad. These massive mansions are all unique, and are located in the historic community of Jim Thorpe. This town is noted for its population of the wealthy and powerful in the past, and it makes for some wonderful sightseeing today.

Things to Do

Located in the mountains of Bradford County, this is the perfect place for a romantic evening for two. The tasting room offers a scenic view of the hilly landscape for you to gaze at as you sip, sniff and swirl.

Golf: Golf Courses in the Poconos are iconic for a reason. Featuring fairways designed by A.W. Tillinghast and Donald Ross, the Pocono region has some of the most memorable courses around. The landscape boasts unparalleled beauty, and you may even notice some wildlife trotting around the course. Check out places like the Buck Hill Golf Club, Cherry Valley Golf Club, Glen Brook Golf Course or the Great Bear Golf Club. These challenging courses are ideal for both avid golfers and beginners.

Local, State and National Parks: The Poconos region is comprised of 2,400 square miles of natural and preserved areas, which includes nine state parks, two national parks and hundreds of acres of state land. Check out the sprawling views of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York from the mountaintop view in Big Pocono State Park, or gaze out onto the spectacular Lehigh Gorge that cuts 21 miles through the Pocono Plateau at the Lehigh Gorge State Park. Whether you want to hike, bike, zip line, white water raft or go horseback riding, you’ll be able to in one of the area parks.

Top Restaurants and Shopping

Whatever you may be in the mood for, from Italian to Thai, can be found in the region.
