Arts and Entertainment in the Big Peach

  • The Arts – Connoisseurs of the Arts should check out the High Museum of Art, Woodruff Arts Center, the Fabulous Fox Theater, the Atlanta Civic Center, and the New American Shakespeare Tavern.
  • Live Music – Be sure to catch a show at the many great music venues in Atlanta, including (but definitely not limited to) Eddie's Attic, Chastain Park Amphitheatre, Masquerade, Smith's Olde Bar, and the Tabernacle.
  • For the Sports Fans – If you like live sports, you can check out these local pro teams: the Atlanta Braves (MLB), the Thrashers (NHL), the Atlanta Hawks (NBA), the Atlanta Falcons (NFL), the Atlanta Silverbacks (USL), Georgia Force (AFL). Or if you prefer college sports, Atlanta is home to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and hosts the annual Chick-fil-A Bowl. NASCAR fans can catch events at the nearby Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Culture and History

Atlanta has a rich culture and history ranging from its rich antebellum heritage to its prominent place in the civil rights movement and finally to its rise as a major global city. Some places you'll definitely need to check out include the Atlanta History Center, the Carter Center and Presidential Library, the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum, and the Sweet Auburn district, location of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site and historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Out and About

  • Inside the Perimeter (ITP) – Within the freeway belt that encircles the city, called the Perimeter, you can visit the CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park, Piedmont Park, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Zoo Atlanta, or the World of Coca-Cola. New to Atlanta is The Georgia Aquarium, which houses an impressive 100,000 to 120,000 fish and other sea creatures.
  • Outside the Perimeter (OTP) – Take the family for a picnic and catch the laser light show at Stone Mountain, the largest piece of exposed granite in the world. If you’re staying in a vacation rental at Lake Allatoona, you’ll be in an excellent spot to check out the beauty and history of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Head west of Atlanta for some thrills at Six Flags Over Georgia. Northwest of Atlanta are the North Georgia Mountains, a scenic part of the Appalachian Mountain range.
  • Atlanta's Outdoors – One cannot talk about Atlanta and not mention the abundance of available outdoor activities. There are miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, dozens of golf courses, roughly 180 public tennis courts, and long stretches of the Chattahoochee River and its lakes and tributaries on which you can enjoy boating, canoeing, fishing, or kayaking.
