We stayed in the Thompson's condo for 9 nights and enjoyed this 2-bedroom vacation home that looks RIGHT out to the ocean! Each bedroom has a large private bath and hot showers with great water pressure. Comfortable beds. Good supply of towels and bedding. Kitchen had everything including lots of spices and a full size stacked washer and dryer. A funny thing that made me happy is that there were LOTS of hangers. The flat screen TVs were excellent, and there were movies along with books. The Wifi worked great and was easily accessible. We never needed the air conditioner because we would open the door and leave the screen door locked, so the breeze blew through and kept everything perfect temp. I personally loved the sounds of the crashing waves and kept the windows open all the time.
We liked this central area because it was so easy to take day trips to different parts of the island and particularly nice to be able to hop on the highway to get back and forth to the airport and Costco. It does stay windy here, but we found it was windy all over the island during our stay. What was great is that this area is NOT crowded! It's a cluster of small condo complexes and only the people from your condo area are outside. There was a nice tree that provided shade so I could sit on the grass or the sand without worrying about being burned. The small pool was enjoyed by people with families, and the BBQs were in use every night. There is enough grass for a soccer ball to be kicked around. The only thing we had to contend with was some smoke and ash from burning cane fields but that is the luck of the draw as to timing. The beach stretches for 3 miles, and most of that is beside a natural pound area so there is hardly anyone on the beach. We saw turtles and people who snorkeled here said they saw fish. We also saw whales on two days.
It is walking distance to the Maui Ocean Center, Pacific Whale Foundation, and the harbor where you can catch all kinds of activities. There are several good restaurants along with a small general store, ice cream, cookies, and a craft market. There is also mini golf up the street and a gas station and fast food. It was very easy to catch the main highway to any part of the island from this location and to get to Safeway for groceries. We also headed into Kihei to eat at Star Noodle, DaKitchen, and Monkeypod for happy hour.
Pam was awesome in all her responses to our questions. It was so great to feel her welcome in sharing their home!
