El Cuyo is blessed with a beautiful calm sea, white sand, coconut palms, a refreshing sea breeze and Villa Xaman-na. A friend and I have recently returned from a week stay. The cottage is adorable, clean as a whistle and comfortable. But the best part, and something you cannot usually get, is the attention of the Pacheco family who are the caretakers. Gaby cooked and cleaned while her husband was on hand to take us on excusions by boat or car to see the flamingos, fish, sight see in Holbox etc. If you are lucky, their sons will be there too. We were especially lucky to also have the owner's son staying next door; a beautiful sweet young man who also made us feel at home (I write this for his mother to read as well as you). Combined, their relaxed concern with our well being gave us a real inside view of the charming sweet nature of the Yucatan people and the beautiful environment. If you want a real Yucatan experience highlighted by an adorable cottage fronting a beautiful sea, then you want to visit El Cuyo. And I would strongly suggest that you let Gaby do the cooking. There are a few places in El Cuyo to buy food items; mostly snacks, a few avocados, tomatoes etc.. In El Cuyo itself, there is at least one good local restaurant (we didn't try others and the Pachechos can clue you in to all that). We skipped shopping in Cancun and left the rest to Gaby and truly relaxed and had a wonderful time. For those worried about the prices, don't. Everything is extremely reasonable. For my friends who do not want a packaged spa vacation, Villa Xaman-na would a place I would highly recommend.
