We visit Amsterdam often for my wife's work, and have therefore stayed in many rentals. This one is special for several reasons: 1) Location: All of the major museums and concert venues are within walking distance -- many of them reachable by canal-side walks the whole way. 2) Location again: You are one block from the Leidseplein, a stop for three of the most useful trams plus the airport bus. 3) Location a third time: A ground floor apartment facing one of city's most attractive canals! 4) Space: Unlike most Amsterdam flats, this one allows you to spread out and breathe a little. Shall we eat at the kitchen table, or in the living room, looking out at the canal? 5) Amenities: Yes, there really are two toilets; at least two beds; a stand-up shower; a lie-down tub; a complete set of kitchen and laundry appliances; and five sinks! 6) Quiet: Despite the liveliness of the nearby Leidseplein, we slept peacefully for eleven nights in the back bedroom, hearing not a peep. 7) Personnel: Marcelle, the owner, was a model of efficiency setting up the rental by email, and a welcoming host on site. Ivan was the perfect manager -- explaining everything from the excellent wi-fi to how to run the clothes- and dish-washers. The second morning we found a light bulb out on one of the very high ceilings; Ivan had it fixed before we returned for lunch. If you've ever stayed at a thanks-for-the-check;-now-you're-on-your-own sort of place, you will appreciate this kind of attention.
