My wife and I spent three days in one of the Ruby Hill cabins on Lake Algonquin in Wells, NY, and it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end.
1. Gerry (one of the owners) was responsive to both emails and calls during the weeks before our visit, and made sure the door was open and light on when we arrived late Friday night.
2. The cabin itself was primo: clean, modern, and yet still quaint, with comfy furnishings, a full kitchen, and many tasteful decorative touches. (No A/C, but plenty of fans). My fav spot was the big screened in front porch, where I watched the day beginning each morning. Look at the pics and you'll see what I mean about the lovely decor.
3. There was lots to do, including canoeing/kayaking on the lake (boats and life jackets provided free), hiking nearby trails (hand-carved walking sticks and maps provided), and building an outdoor campfire in the huge stone fire pit (marshmallow holders provide too, it you can believe it!)
We were especially grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with family members we hadn't seen in years, and for Gerry and Susan's tactfulness in letting us have our space. The weekend in Ruby Hills cabin gave us an opportunity to make lasting memories with three of our young nieces and nephews (ages 10-13) who will always remember defying death (LOL) on Auger Falls, learning to kayak on Lake Algonquin, and telling stories around a raging bonfire that last night.
We WILL be back!
