My wife and I intended to stay for 9 nights in May. Unfortunately, the "Slide Fire" broke-out on day-7 and we had to evacuate the canyon at that point (leaving all of our personal belongings behind, at the house).
The property manager, John, and others on his team were able to secure and ship back to us our most personal belongings (car keys, purse, etc.). But we had to make a return trip the following weekend to retrieve the rest of our belongings.
The owners/property managers were very diligent and responsive during this unusual situation. And, fortunately, the home and neighborhood were spared due to the hard working fire fighters (yeah!).
The home itself is beautiful and peaceful. It has an open floor plan which renders the kitchen/dining and living rooms a major selling point.
The back patio is shaded by trees and is a great place for morning coffee or a glass of wine while barbequing (Gas grill is good).
Oak Creek runs by the property about 50 yards from the patio. The road runs close to the back of the property but is well screened by trees and vegetation.
The master bedroom is roomy and the bed very comfortable. A large walk-in closet is a major advantage. The second bedroom (two single beds) would be great for kids of any age. Each bedroom is served by its own bathroom (with shower/tub.
The owners have spent a lot of money on upgrades. The appliances are new, the granite-like counter tops spacious and the dining table easily seats 4 (my wife used it as her 'crafts' station).
There is a flat panel TV and the owner has a CD library nearing 30 titles. There is no WIFI, cable or telephone in the house--you'll quite literally be off the grid (probably a good thing).
The neighborhood is quiet and the setting beautiful. You're in easy reach of Oak Creek Canyon hikes and other attractions, and Sedona (the expensive, touristy part) is a 15 minute drive.
Cruise on over to Oak Creek Village (south and east of Sedona proper) for a real treat--red rock buttes, canyons and bluffs will blow your mind (invest in a camera b/4 this trip).
We made trips to Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon, Williams, Sedona, Cottonwood, Jerome and Prescott from this home base, so it really is conveniently located.
But, if you have a good book or two, and just want to kick-back, put your feet up and relax, the Pine Flats house is your ticket to renewed sanity.
While our trip was cut short but the owners refunded for the lost nights quickly :-)
5-STARS: Highly recommended.
