Thanks for making your condo available. After easy arrangements, we arrived to find a real home a short way from a wonderful, quiet beach. The apartment requires walking up 1 flight of stairs to enter the property and another to reach the bedrooms; both with spectacular views. All necessities were available including salt and pepper. Each morning, we walked the beach towards Barkers and rarely saw another person. The property is quiet except for Fridays when the machines arrive to do the lawn and groom the property. If Fridays remain the same, it should be reserved for trips away from the condo such as to Rum Point stopping for lunch at Over the Edge.
The pool is large enough to swim laps if you angle the swim correctly and surprisingly few people were there during the week. We often felt as if we were the only people in the complex. If more human interaction is required, a short ride to 7 mile beach is easy. The streets are not marked so driving can be a challenge especially at night. However, the island is small enough that it is hard to get really lost, although I managed on our first night coming back from the Cracked Conch. There are excellent restaurants a short drive away such as the Calypso Grill and Morgans across the street from each other. The owner of the Calypso Grill lives in our complex and his wife is the artist who paintings adorn the restaurant.
One of our reasons to go to the Caymans was for our son to Kiteboard. The condo is ideally located on the north shore not far from Barkers where the kiteboarding school is located. Head 10 minutes by car east down Conch Point Rd to Barker’s Beach in West Bay and look for kites in the sky; the school is not a one of bricks and mortar. Jhon Mora (kitesurfcayman.com) can be found there most days Nov-May and is quite a personable and competent teacher. The water is quite flat and shallow with a white sand bottom out 500 m or so. The wind in Grand Cayman is predominately from east north-east at 10 kts but occasionally shifts SE requiring a trip to the other end of the island. His rates appear to be a lot better than the other kite boarding offerings from the sports store in the Galleria Plaza. The condo is also ideally located to kite directly off the beach in front of the pool with side on shore winds. There is a place near the pool to hose off your gear and lay out your kites on the grass. Be kind to the reef as the reefs have had a lot damage from recent storms.
