My husband and our 3 girls have been coming to Lakeview Cottage in Highlands for Spring Break for the past 5 years. We all love it. The weather is still cold when we arrive but the cottage is warm and inviting -- especially when the big stone fireplace has a roaring fire. The cottage is clean, well-equipped, and somehow manages to feel both cozy and spacious. Although we love more active, busy vacations in big cities during summer vacations, during the girls' spring break, they are still stressed from the work-load of school, exams, sports, etc.... Our Highlands "home away from home" is the perfect get away. We sleep late, hike, shop in the lovely little town, cook breakfast and lunch in the cottage, and eat out every night. Usually when we arrive after a long drive, we pull into the Pizza Place on the main street. It looks like a dive but the food is amazing. We also were surprised to find one of the best Mexican restaurants ever there. I'm sorry I don't remember the name of it but it's up behind the Regions Bank, across from the Subway. After dinner, we come back to our cozy cottage and play games (this year it was mostly Scattegories) or watch movies. The cottage is well stocked with board games, movies, novels, etc... After a stay at Highlands, we are all re-charged and ready to go back to face the challenges work and school.
