Wonderful stay in fantastic home!

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Zabala a couple of weeks ago. The home was spacious and charming. We appreciated the warm hospitality of Alex, the brother-in-law of Ken who was away the weekend we were there. The plantation is so peaceful and tropical- mangoes, bananas, mandarin oranges abound and renters are welcome to pick and enjoy. Our 3 young kids fell in love with Estella, the farm's German Shepard! She slept on the porch all night. No satellite tv, but we brought a kindle and laptop and watched netflix with no trouble. Our only regret was not bringing along more family/friends to enjoy this home! So much space went unused! I could have laid on the hammock on the upstairs porch for several days...yet we had only booked one night and were on our way to the beach after seeing the cloud forest. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

First and favorite of all the places we stayed

Photos and words do not do this house justice. If your considering it, rent it. It's open with great ventilation and views (windows on all sides), decent kitchen, traditional coffee brewer, plenty of furniture to relax in, spacious dining table, refrigerator that works, plenty of hot water, never had a problem with WiFi, no desire to turn on the TV so didn't even look at it, fruit growing right out your door, beautiful morning bird chorus, and the best drinking water right out of the tap. In fact, I think this was the only house out of 4 that we stayed at in our 2 weeks in Costa Rica that lived up to it's description. But the icing on the cake was the plantation itself and the welcome. Ken was out of town on business so we did not get to meet Ken (who was gracious and helpful throughout the booking process) but we had the joy of Alex who took us on a wonderful tour of the plantation, gave us delicious coffee as a welcome and a good bye, and truly made us feel as welcome as family. All the boys agree "Alex is the best"
You absolutely have to rent a car for this house. Can't imagine getting there any other way.The road to the house is dirt and gravel but fine. We never had to use 4 wheel drive. The house is on the scenic road to Monteverde and the road gets tougher as you climb, but again no 4 wheel drive.
We are a family of 5 our boys are ages 19,21,and 26, we are 55+ and loved it. All 3 boys loved it. If we ever visit Costa Rica again we will stay at this home. I'd love to be there during coffee harvest time. Someday...
