I'm a difficult individual to please but our rental in Taiba just a few short weeks ago was Paradise.
The house was everything that was promised and the location on the beach was spectacular. Our family of 6 from different parts of the U.S. were not kite surfer or regular surfers but we know a nice beach when we see one, and this was it. Just being able to walk out the back of the house and access the water so easily was a special treat. We took many walks along the beach, swam continuously in the beautiful and warm water, and of course spent many an hour on the hammocks just napping or reading books.
The town of Taiba was spectacular with so much charm. The owner said an old fishing village, undiscovered by most, and it was that indeed. No major tourist infrastructure here, but everything else that you could want. The restaurants were plentiful and varied from simple Barracas (huts on the beach), to better restaurants, to a couple of really nice ones (a small French expat population is in Taiba and you know the food is going to be good). Stores sold all of the basic things you might need, and you can buy your own fish in the Village square and cook back at the house.
If you are looking for a relaxed vacation on the beach in a small, quaint, and interesting fishing village on the coast of Brazil, this is your spot! An hour and a quarter from Fortaleza by car and a whole different world.
