Casa Las Nubes is an epic vacation destination. The fact that Daryl and Michael have successfully built such an astonishing house in Costa Rica is impressive, but that they are willing to share it with the HomeAway community is even more so. The entire experience from first contact with the owners to the last day of our stay was remarkable. Danny and David (the property's caretakers) answered any questions we had and gave advice on what to do and see. Danny works incredibly hard to make sure the grounds around the house are well cared for. He even came to get us when the monkeys were lounging in the trees on the property (he knew I was searching for them).
The house itself is an architectural gem surrounded by the natural beauty of unspoiled tropical forest. If you appreciate clean architecture, I think you'll be hard pressed to find a more spectacular home in Costa Rica. Since the guesthouse is just a few steps down from the pool, it does not feel isolated or split off from the rest of the home. The outdoor showers are brilliant, and the guesthouse comes fully equipped with a blender for making some fresh fruit cocktails! Daryl and Michael only rent out the guesthouse when no one is staying in the main home, so it truly feels like you have rented the entire campus.
The pool is massive and forms a large "L" shape right at the corner of the hill, providing massive views. There is even a terraced section of the pool that runs the length of the home's main living room, and a conveniently located outdoor shower and bathroom. This area of the home is so surreal that you may not want to leave the property at all. However, if you do decide to explore, here are some of our favorite things to visit:
Best Beach - Carillo (~35-40 minutes away, beautiful and very few visitors)
Best Restaurant - El Colibri (located in Carillo, Argentinian grill)
Best Soda - La Cuchara (short walk from the house, delicious Costa Rican food)
Best Grocery Store - the supermarket in Nicoya (short drive away and fully stocked).
Overall, we fell in love with Costa Rica, but admittedly we love Casa Las Nubes even more. We can't wait to come back!

P.S. We drove from San Jose, which was straightforward and easy, but I highly recommend flying to Liberia to save yourself a few hours of driving.
