I had fallen in love with a picture of the owner on their dock and just had to go and see it myself. WOW! It was even better than I anticipated, the accomendations were beautiful! You never get tired of looking at the view and the enchanting fireflies at night. The nearby vegitarian restaurant was great, we went several times. The trip to the nearby (by water taxie) town to shop was wonderful with great bargins and good food. It was like being in your own little paradise! It was the "best first country" experience I have ever had and I am on my third passport, so I do travel extensively.

Exotic Retreat!

Are you looking for a break from crowded freeways, noisy restaurants, and long lines at the grocery store? If this is the case then this Guatemalan sanctuary is the perfect place for you. Nestled on a hillside overlooking Lake Atitlan and its majestic volcanoes, this home is a peaceful setting for a relaxing retreat. The property is beautifully maintained by the caretaker and housekeeper who lovingly care for the home throughout the year. The bedrooms have firm comfortable beds with separate bathrooms available. Natural lighting and beautiful stonework create a soothing bathing experience. The focal point of the property is the Buddha room which is a twelve-sided Yurt made of beautiful natural wood polished to a golden sheen. Hand painted murals decorate the outside walls and the hand carved doors reflect the vibrant colors and the opulent foliage of the countryside. There is an adjoining kitchen and doors which open out to patios and a garden setting. You may sit and read a book on the patio under the shade of the beautiful trees and shrubs or you may wander about the gardens through graceful pathways of natural stone, quiet pools of water, and terraced areas filled with lush vegetation. If you tire of cooking you may take an easy walk to Villa Sumaya which is a yoga retreat and restaurant in close proximity to the house. Here you will enjoy freshly prepared food with natural ingredients while enjoying a panoramic view of the lake. If you enjoy shopping, a short boat ride across the lake to Santiago or San Pedro will allow you to purchase hand crafted items ranging from jewelry, to purses, as well as amazing wall hangings and pillow covers. This is a perfect retreat for people looking for a unique vacation experience.
