We were thrilled to arrive at Casa Kristina having been met en route and escorted to the driveway (super helpful since we were in completely unfamiliar territory).
The accommodations were exceptionally clean with all the amenities we were anticipating and more. The view was spectacular and we spent many evenings sitting on the balcony enjoying a meal, good conversation and the view.
Plenty of clean linens made our trips to the beach and dips in the beautiful pool easy. We appreciated having the washer and dryer on site as well which made light packing very simple.
The walk to Sandy Beach truly was not more than a minute or two, and it was great for both surfing when the wind was right and for just playing in the waves for our younger kids (10 & 15). It was ideal for our family because we were unaccustomed to reef beaches which most of the others around Rincon are, and the sandy ocean floor and sand bars made for hours of fun. A strong current and a 1-2 foot drop-off at the shore-line make this a beach where smaller children (up to 4yrs) would be safest accompanied by an adult in the water.
The pool at Casa Kristina was shady in the afternoons, so it was perfect for the kids to play in when we'd had too much sun.
There were a couple of nice restaurants (Tamboo and The Pool Bar), a little shop (Mango Beach Shop) for renting surfboards, boogie boards and beach chairs--they also have beautiful hand-made sea glass jewelry, and a tiny convenience store (Casa Verde) all in walking distance.
Just a five minute drive on 413 to Maria's Beach you'll find Desecheo Surf Shop where we rented a surfboard for the week and our son (18) had a tag-along lesson to familarize himself with surfing over reef--the instructors there were welcoming, informative, helpful and fun--just ask for Billy!
The kids favorite restaurant was The Calypso Cafe on Maria's Beach. We had fun grilling food we bought at the local grocery--Econo--in town.
There is much bird activity to enjoy from the balcony and one pair of warblers was even building a nest in a flowering shrub near the pool--an added bonus!
This was truly our best vacation yet, and we highly recommend Casa Kristina to anyone traveling to Puerto Rico for the first time, or someone who is looking for a high quality location for their stay in Rincon. We miss it already.
