The property is terrific, clean, neat, everything in order. The villa was as advertised we all were delighted.
We arrived on December 31st and stayed the first night at Hacienda Vista Real Resort just down the street. A very nice place, with a terrific breakfast the next morning.
We toured a lot, covered nearly 900 km and took in the ruins at Tulum and Chinchen itza, and visited Valladolid. Took the ferry to San Miquel on Cozumel, for snorkeling at Chankanaab and shopping. There ae no end of great beaches near the Villa and we found a place south of Tulum called Ana y Jose. Lunch and adult beverages on the beach, very nice.
As for resturants in Playa my favorite were, Rolandi at Paseo del Carmen in the mall before you get to the ferry to Cozumel, good Italian. (veal filled ravioli) La Casa del Agua on 5th Ave, great fish and the Grouper is always fresh. Xandu run by Mr. Louie, ate there twice. Mayan and Mexican mostly, lamb and traditional dishes were great. And north, at the southwest corner of 32d street and th Ave is Carlitos Way, an Argentine place with the best rib eye steak I have had in a while, (ask for Ricardo) along with live entertainment in the bosonova tradition, great music.
Between the food, waiters and staff anxious to please, friendly people in town and in the back country I am definately coming back for more. Could spend a couple weeks just trying out the resturants, not to mention the beaches and back country to explore. Bone up on your Spanish if you have time, if not people seem to go out of their way to help. Enjoy!
Side thought, for gorceries, the Metro on 34th Ave is really good. Tried Sam's club, not impressed, the Centro Mayan just off route 307 is a good place to explore, that's where the locals seem to shop.
