The pictures online don't do this beautiful home justice. Casa Estrella is a stunning home perched on a hill, just above a secluded cove. The beach is rocky here (and full of beautiful shells), but there is a sandy beach a short walk to the left. Be sure and rent a Toyota Land Cruiser from "Irish John" as this home is at the end of a private dirt road, just a mile or so from town. We walked into town several times just for exercise, but found it useful to have a FJ40 4x4 for getting around. We saw dozens of howler monkeys and scores of beautiful birds in the yard every morning. As the owner says, it is an Eco-home, and solar-powered which means no A/C, but the fans and fresh breeze kept us comfortable even on the warmest days. On our 2nd day we found a fisherman down at the Marina and bought Tuna, and Corvina. Added some chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and fresh lime juice for some of the best ceviche we've ever had. The home was cleaned meticulously every day by the staff who live on the property in a guest home just behind the main house. Take surf lessons with Dario's company

If you're looking for a 5 star home, with air-conditioning, a country club atmosphere, golf, and "Hamptons" feel, go the Hamptons. If you're looking for an adventurous, safe, naturally beautiful place that is out of the way, that's quiet, peaceful, rejuvenating... Casa Estrella (and Nicaragua) is the place to go. We'll be back next year for sure.
