My husband and I recently visited Oahu to attend the pinning ceremony for our son who was promoted to Navy Chief, we extended this trip into a longer vacation to spend some extra time in Kailua, where I lived as a child. Coconut cabana was just what my husband and I were looking for, we do not go in for "night life" and wanted a more residential feel to our stay. While it was in a residential neighborhood, it was close enough town and to the beach that we could walk or ride our bikes (as the listing indicates, walking is 10-15 minutes to town and about 15-20 to beach). We especially enjoyed the walk to the beach through lovely residential areas. The room was quiet, and while we could hear muffled footsteps from time to time from the main house, it was not at all unreasonable or annoying: I typically experience much more noise staying in 5 star hotels when I travel for business. This was definitely quieter than any hotel I have ever stayed in. The fully equipped kitchenette made it easy to make a meal or two each day in the room, which is a money saver! The private lanai, while small, was a perfect place to sit together and eat breakfast or share coffee. The room is tastefully decorated and the bed is very comfortable. I have osteoarthritis in my back and hips, and a poor mattress could have resulted in a flare, especially following a 16 hour flight! Instead we were thankful to wake up refreshed and pain-free each morning, I need to remember to ask Susanne the brand and model of the mattress! As a note, I was tempted at first to try to reserve one of the two other rooms that opened directly to the lovely pool area, I did not (for cost savings) but now can say this room was the best choice for us even without consideration of cost! The access to the pool is easy, and we very much enjoyed the additional privacy this room allowed us to have. Susanne is delightful, but very busy. She is a concerned hostess who obviously takes pride in her property and genuinely wants her tenants to be pleased. We purchased one of her beautiful prints (still need to frame and hang) and coasters that we keep on our bedside tables, giving us a daily reminder of our dream vacation! We would absolutely stay here again if we visit the area again! And we would (and already have) recommended it to family and friends.
