My husband and I stayed in Sankofa for two weeks in September, and we are so glad we did. The apartment was just as advertised, if not better, and Harlem a jewel of a place, with some excellent restaurants and wine bars. Whilst we were there the African American Parade took place - brilliant - so many happy, friendly people. Getting to downtown Manhattan couldn't have been easier, we used the subway, with our Metro Cards, only $30 for a week, and when we got back after a hectic, exhausting, but marvellous day out we could tumble off the train at 116th Street, and into The Harlem Tavern for Happy Hour, or one of the lovely French wine bars / restaurants. We would probably not have ventured out to Harlem if we hadn't been staying there, and what a shame that would have been. So thank you to Edith and Norma, who made booking the apartment really easy and then greeted us in their incredibly friendly way, with wine, beer, nibbles and breakfast for the following day. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in New York I could not recommend Sankofa enough. Some of our friends were staying in a very upmarket hotel overlooking Central Park and were envious of our home from home.
