If I tell you how great it is at Mandala Farm, they might be too busy when we want to go back, but it's too good to keep it a secret! What a terrific place! I can't remember the last time we were so relaxed as a family. The owners of Mandala Farm are really wonderful. They were so nice and showed us around and were extremely helpful without ever being intrusive.
This is a rare opportunity to enjoy the old-fashioned family vacation you've dreamed about. We drive 6 hours from Massachusetts and it's worth every second. The cottage is really a timber framed small house with a loft. It's cozy and lovely. It's rustic in appearance, but with the amenities of comfortable beds, a large bathroom and full kitchen. There's no cable TV, which for us is a blessing in disguise. They do supply some DVDs and VHS tapes. We found ourselves enjoying the games and cards they have there. We found ourselves interacting more with less TV. (Though I have to confess to hitting the Red Box in Ellsworth [DVD only]). There's no internet within the cottage which, I find fantastic as I sometimes find it difficult to unplug. :) If you really need it, they have it on the farm porch and McDonald's in Ellsworth has free wifi.
Schoodic Point is a short drive and is one of the most picturesque parts of the Bar Harbor area. Bar Harbor itself isn't far either. This is the area for Maine Lobster! The cottage has a big pot if you're looking to enjoy some while you're there. We found some in Millbridge but there's many places to buy them.
Our family is really looking forward to the next time we visit.
