We spent countless hours researching the perfect spot for 6 adults & 2 very young children (3 &1) and eventually agreed on Villa Oceana. It was the absolute best decision! Sapodilla Bay is so, so underrated. First and foremost, it's stunning. The beach and shallow water are just gorgeous (coming from someone who has visited 20+ Caribbean islands). It's on the south side of the island and protected from the harsher winds that seemed to pound Grace Bay each time we took the rental car north. It's just the perfect setting for beach lovers who can appreciate true beauty. We are a fairly active family so the kayaks and paddleboards were a massive plus. It almost made the trip. I'd put my 3 year old son on the front of the paddleboard and we'd go exploring for sea creatures, including frequent contact with a huge sea turtle that used a 50 yard radius of the bay as its primary residence. With the view, I can't blame him/her! My son couldn't wait to go paddleboarding each day.... and I think others staying on Sapodilla Bay were jealous we had the luxury of using all of these 'toys'.
The indoor/outdoor speakers were another convenient plus. Great tunes on Pandora and we weren't stuck with the 'local' stations (no offense :-)).
The house met our needs. Nothing flashy or excessive, but functional with everything you would need as if you were living at home. Satellite TV and we watched NFL playoff games via Miami's local networks.
Despite the warm weather, the pool was a tad cool while we were there (mid 70's). The kids unfortunately couldn't take advantage of it as much as we would have hoped, but it hardly mattered considering how close we were to the beach and the overall shallowness of the bay more or less made it a non-issue.
One other cool plus: local fishermen would troll through the area in late afternoon displaying their catch of the day (lobsters, conch, many varieties of fish). This worked out well as we were able to negotiate a seafood feast for a fraction of what you would have paid at IGA (lobsters @ around $14/pound).
We did rent a car which came in handy big time. Everything is accessible. 10-15 min from airport, 10 min from food/liquor, 15 min from Grace Bay and fine dining.
All in all, just a fantastic week. Based on what we researched, I'd consider this a tremendous value for a group our size. It's why we plan to return to this very house in early 2016!
