My husband and I returned from Maui a month ago today and how I wish we were still there, especially in the penthouse unit we were lucky enough to find. We have stayed at The Whaler many times but usually on the ground floor which we loved also but the view from the top is another story - absolutely beautiful in the morning for coffee and in the evening for Happy Hour. While there is some noise from the adjacent properties, the wonderful view makes up for it. The studio size was just perfect for us - extremely spacious and everything available that we could want was at our fingertips: a walk-in closet furnished with more hangers than I have ever seen in a facility, tons of soft, freshly washed white towels so that we never ran out, a storage closet with beach chairs and umbrella plus a nice selection of reading material, magazines to help us make decisions about where to go and where to eat (when we weren't enjoying the view from the lanai) and overall, a very tastefully furnished unit. The owner helped me plan a surprise 80th birthday visit to The Whaler for my husband and was so accommodating that it was a pleasure working with her. We always love going to the Hula Grill and Leilani's - both are very enjoyable with wonderful ocean views. We also ate quite a few times at the newly named Maui Fish & Pasta restaurant that used to be The Rusty Harpoon and then Cane and Taro's. It was excellent and very friendly service. All in all, a wonderful visit back to one of our favorite islands!
