My family of four and our friends, another family of four, just spent a wonderful week at this home. It is located on the quiet side of the island putting it about 35 minutes from most of our activities in Acadia. For us that seemed plenty close. Good eating choices and other resources were close by. The property is located at the end of a driveway that passes by another home. It is situated across the street from the harbor where a public dock is located and offers wonderful views of the harbor that are partially obstructed by trees in the summer time. There is a large yard with a tree house where the kids can play. Parking is behind the house off the street which was nice as we had bicycles mounted on the car. In short, it is a nice private location with plenty of resources nearby and just a short drive to the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and Acadia.
The house itself provided plenty of room for the eight of us without feeling cramped in the least. Each family had its own bathroom with towels and there is also a nice washer and dryer. The main living area adjacent to the kitchen has two tables, end to end, which provides space and seating for 8-10 people. The kitchen was well stocked with an electric stove, dishwasher, drip coffee maker, pots and pans, and utensils. We were able to easily eat in for breakfast and cook the occasional dinner as well. As others have noted it is located on top of a type of garage space for working on boats. There was no activity while we were visiting. In fact, the property offers a nice degree of privacy and the whole area is quiet enough to hear a pin drop at night. While the decor is a bit dated, everything is clean and in good working order.
The deck is quite large and wraps around the house, the main access to the house is off the deck and it sits about 15 feet off the ground. There were two flights of stairs to go from the ground level driveway to the main entrance. It was one of my favorite features as it offered great views of the harbor, there was a traditional wooden picnic table and 4 plastic chairs for seating. I recommend wearing shoes on it, as it is older and the stain is peeling in some areas. I did spend many hours drinking coffee and relaxing on the deck!
The owner was very responsive and easy to communicate with by email and telephone. I felt the information in the listing was accurate.
We enjoyed are stay in comfort and would definitely stay there again!
