Dear Renato :
We only write this message to say thank you for your help . The pack with all information about venice was fantastic, with a very clear map and points of interest . As you know we were one year ago in a Hotel in Mestre , but this year has been much more comfortable for us, because we enjoy as a Venetian family , in your very nice apartment , warm , clean and in a wonderful place on venice, only 100 mts of the main street of Canareggio .
We could also rest in the apartment every time we need , because there is a good connection with vaporettos and not so much distance from one of the most strategical places on Venice , Rialto´s brigde.
You must know that some friends and collegues of my hospital are now interested to go there , and probably in a very short time they´ll contact to you for bookings.
Every day we´ll remember our coffee-breaks in your kitchen , after a long journey walking on Venice , waiting for recover energy to continue for discover more nice streets , bridges , churchs or museums .
We will write again to tell you our favourite places for visit , restaurants , gelaterias and shops .

How to do Venice...

We are two travelling journalists from Australia who spent 10 days at casa Allegra in January this year and loved every minute of it. The apartment is perfectly located in the quietly peaceful Cannaregio district, which is far enough away from the tourist hub around St Mark's Square but also within walking distance of the Grand Canal, the train station and various vaporetto stops. We loved it, and especially loved coming back to it with a bag of food shopping after a day 'doing' the sights. It really did become a home away from home. It's got everything you might need in an apartment, is well-maintained and - much needed in mid-January - warm!
We'd recommend it to anyone as the perfect base from which to visit one of the greatest cities in the world.

Cannaregio in late autumn 2008

We had a wonderful stay in Casa Allegra in late November. The apartment is just perfect and everything was functioning to our satisfaction. We were first of all very happy to stay in Cannaregio which we found very charming and with an authentic atmosphere. Specially the Fondamenta della Misericordia was great with the small shops, bars and restaurants and a lot of locals standing and walking around in the autumn sun. We always like to live amongst the locals because in a way it makes us feel less touristic.
We also enjoyed the short distances to everything. We have been to Venice several times so we are not losing our way anymore. In this way Casa Allegra is very central situated because in 15 minutes you can be at Sankt Marco Square. Also we enjoined the short distance to Fondamenta Nova where the vaporetto to Murano, Burano and the Airport can be easily reached.
All in all we spent a wonderful week in our favourite Italian city and we have already recommended Casa Allegra to friends and will continue to do so

A great June 2008 in Venice

Dear Renato,
Thank you we had a wonderful time at Casa Allegra, we found it was bright and clean, had all we needed and was a very charming home.
We loved the beautiful views looking over the canals from the balconies and we very much enjoyed living in a genuine area of central Venice with lots of small canals and bridges.
Having previously stayed in hotels, it was a great experience to enjoy living like a local Venetian would, having our "own home'" in Venice to come back to. Very central area but away from the tourist crowds, the apartment was our sanctuary where we could feel relaxed. There is a good sized clean bathroom and laundry area. We could cook a nice Italian meal purchased from the wonderful Pescheria fish market very close by, that we would get to by taking the local people's Gondola to cross the Grand Canal.
Thank you for your valuable local information it was very helpful, and thank you for all your prompt and friendly replies.
We will be coming back to Casa Allegra very soon and will be recommending it to our friends.

We had a wonderful time in Casa Allegra in Venice. The flat is within an easy reach of all the "hot spots" in the city and at the same time calm and tranquille. We enjoyed this holiday very much and would like to rent the flat again about the same time next year.

We have just got back from a blissful week in Venice at Casa Allegra with our two teenage boys. The apartment was such a lovely place to stay, and we loved feeling smug as we peeled away from the crowds on Strada Nova to walk home the last couple of minutes to our own peaceful hideaway, laden with delicious produce from Rialto market for supper. You can really pretend that you are a proper Venetian, not a mere tourist here!
The entrance to the flat is so quiet and secret, and then once you are inside, it is really light and airy, with two sweet little balconies off the bedrooms to hang over and watch the world go by across the canal. There is loads of wardrobe space and a big comfortable bed. Terrific paintings throughout from a clearly very artistic family on both sides. The boys enjoyed sleeping in their bunk beds in their cosy little room. The kitchen is a nice generous size as is the bathroom which has a good shower.
I looked at loads of apartments online before choosing this one, and I'm so glad I did. It couldn't have suited us better. You could even pitch up without a guidebook, as there were lots there including the same Rick Steve's 2008 one we'd brought (the best guide to Venice) and some well-chosen venetian-themed reading matter.
Many thanks to Renato for his charming and friendly emails before our stay, and the excellent guide and personalised map that he sent. All in all, a complete success.

We enjoyed our stay in the Casa Allegra very much. The apartment is well located, in a nice area, where it is mostly quiet at night and busy during daytime. It's fun to watch the children going to school in the morning, the traffic on the canal during the day and the candlelights of the restaurant nearby in the evenings, and all this from the bedroom (unfortunately not from the kitchen or the living room.). We found everything we needed (towels, soap, hairdryer, basic ingredients in the kitchen etc.) in the apartment. The information booklet with the map we received in advance was very useful (We especially enjoyed the (cheap) rides with the traghettos and the excellent food at the little restaurant Da Rioba).

end of a special holiday

After we cycled almost 2000 km (Netherlans-Venice, in 19 days) we arrived in Casa Allegra. A nice and beautiful located appartment. Spacious for the two of us, although accptable for four people. Well equipped, with f.e. enough fans for the hot summer. The care of the owner was of great help, f.e. his information-in-advance.

Small but Comfortable

We stayed at Casa Allegra in May of 2008, and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Venezia as well as the apartment. Four adults and one infant were quite comfortable. The bedrooms are small, but the beds were comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped, and the nearby supermarket, plus occasional visits to the open-air market in the Rialto (a quick walk to the Grand Canal, then a 50 cent ride across on the gondola), made for excellent cooking. The apartment is well located, about 20 minutes by foot from the Venice train station, and just steps from the main thoroughfare of Strada Nova which goes from the train station to St. Marks. Despite its central location, it is just far enough away from the main streets to be quiet at night. A nearby "vini sfusi" (wine in bulk - bring an empty 1 liter water bottle with you to get excellent wine for about 2 euros a liter) was a nifty find, located on Fondamenta de la Misericordia which is just behind the apartment.
The apartment was very clean when we arrived. Three things to consider: (1) the refrigerator does not have a freezer and is quite small (like you might find on a sailboat), although sufficient for our needs for a week; (2) there was only one set of keys - which made it a little complicated when the four adults wanted to split into two groups; and (3) one room has a "letto matrimonale" (queen size bed), but the other room has bunk beds, which are comfortable but are still bunk beds.
Overall, I highly recommend the apartment and would return in the future.

Please note that your being 4 adults and an infant would be close to maximum capacity for Casa Allegra apartment. Yes one of the beds in the second bedroom is a fold out bunk bed, and although it is a comfortable bed it is more ideal for children / teenagers. However the master bedroom is not small by European standards, the king size bed is comfortable and there is more than ample storage in the large wardrobes. Not to mention the wonderful views from both bedroom balconies.
Next time if you require 2 sets of keys all you have to do is ask, not a problem at all.
