Initially, we had plans to look for a hotel in the San Juan Vicinity, from where we could drive and visit El Yunque Rainforest, snorkel in the cays near Fajardo and visit Old San Juan and Condado. I realized finding a hotel room for 4 adults and 2 grown children required 3 hotel rooms. I started to look at tripadvisor.com and searched for condo rentals. It redirected me to another site called flipkey.com and homeaway.com. I was pleasantly surprised to find this Pena Mar condo right away and that it could accommodate 8 people! The place looked so nice in the photos, the location in Fajardo, PR was perfect, and so I made a reservation.
When we got there, my family’s reaction was “where did you find such a nice place? My patience and research paid off and it made me feel like a superstar! We loved having coffee in the balcony every morning, looking at the marina and the beautiful boats, and seeing the catamarans leave one after the other for the daily snorkeling trip. We made breakfast every day and the kitchen space was perfect, plenty of room to prepare meals and sit and eat. Having a washer and dryer is a must when visiting an island and the beach. Your clothing will need washing often and this is added convenience. The dryer was not working during our stay ?, but I am sure it is now fixed. The bedding was very comfortable. Bathrooms had toiletries such as soap, shampoo and conditioner. The air conditioner worked great and kept the rooms cool and comfortable. The place was meticulously clean. The living area offered plenty of comfortable sitting space and TV/DVD. We did not watch TV, too many fun things to do outside! The cooler provided comes handy to take plenty of drinks and snacks with you.
The condo is a gated community with 2 parking spaces which made us feel safe. It is so close to the Las Croabas Beach and Parque Pasivo, after the Conquistador Hotel, where you can find the bio-kayak tours (Yokahu) and local boats to arrange other adventures at sea directly with the boat owners (Mingo). You have easy access to this 3rd floor condo unit from the building main entrance, no need to use the elevator or the stairs. Good for strollers, wheelchairs or elderly people.
From the condo, we also found groceries stores and restaurants nearby, including Wal-Mart that is open 24 hours with limited groceries but plenty of snacks and drinks. Other grocery stores close earlier. Some casual restaurants that were recommended to us were closed (El Bo

The property was neat and well kept. The owners were very reliable and very attentive. I really felt like at home, it was a pleasure to be there. A really nice place and owner with outstanding customer service!

Fantastic vacation - outstanding lodging

We read several glowing reviews of this property and thought it sounded great for our family of five. Everything about it exceeded our expectations. A wonderful, new condominium in close proximity to everything we wanted to enjoy around Fajardo and Luquillo. The unit was sparkling clean and new and extremely comfortable. We spent most of our time outside the complex, hiking in El Yunque, enjoying the beaches nearby and snorkeling in Culebra. There are several excellent restaurants nearby; indeed, we didn't have a bad meal anywhere in Puerto Rico. We'd love to go back and stay in the same unit. Waldemar is a splendid host and stayed up late into the night to receive us. He answered all my questions and was delighted to help with anything. A great stay!

This is my 2nd stay at this property in less than 1 year. My stay this time was just enjoyable and pleasant as the first. The condo was very clean and accomodating. There were very nice amenities within the condo's that were very comforting. It was pleasantly decorated with all appliances in working order. A very ample supply of dishes and cooking utensils. The condo had a very home-like feeling with a great view of the ocean and marina. In addition, the purpose of my visit this time to Puerto Rico was participation in a golf trip with approx 20 other fellow golfers. As a group we rented a total of 5 condo's. All the condo's rented were very nice. However whenever we had golfers visit our condo, they all commented how much nicer our condo was compared to theirs. Whenever I visit Puerto Rico as I often do, This property will always be my first choice for lodging.

Not to be disappointed!

Beautiful, VERY clean and spacious apartment. Waldemar, Dolly and their two boys were beyond helpful in every way! The apartment was equipped with everything you needed including cooler, towels and chair for beach plus everything for cooking and comfort!
The complex was clean and felt very secure. Lots to do in the area if you like beaches, islands and any water activity. We only stayed here 3 nights and wished we would have stayed longer. In fact, had an issue at our second place (quite dirty apartment) and turned to Waldemar for help. He made some phone calls and connected us with someone who had an apartment available. Although we didn't end up staying there his effort and caring was HIGHLY appreciated and tells you much about his character.
Suggestions for area: Yunque Rainforest, Luqillo Beach and BioBay. If you want to take the ferry to Vieques or Cuelba get there EARLY.
Again, THANK you Waldemar and family! You made our vacation excellent and knew that we could turn to you for anything

The apartment we rented from Waldemar was more than we expected. Our arrival on Valentine's Day was laced with Valentines through out the place. The unit is fully equipped and ready to live in with all amenities included. Very spacious and a view of the Marina. Be sure to join East Island Excursions for their Snorkel/Catermaran cruise. Check out the Rain forest, Luquillo Beach and Seven Seas Beach. A Bio Bay trip is needed too. We had way too much fun even relaxing in the unit or by one of the pools in the complex. For eats, we truly enjoyed and recommend The Calizo. It is past the PenaMar and past El Conquistador resort in Las Croabas. All on the same road that goes to Seven Seas Beach. Thank You Waldemar and Family for the great place for a great vacation.

A peaceful getaway

My husband and I have been to Puerto Rico several times but normally stay in San Juan or Isla Verde. We wanted to get out of the city and decided to rent a condo because any decent hotels or resorts in Fajardo are outrageously expensive. The pictures of the condo looked amazing but I was a little hesitant because I have never rented a condo for my vacation lodging. However, this place exceeded my expectations. The condo was immaculately clean. It was a very secure complex. Waldermar and his family were delightful and really friendly.
You definitely need a car if you're staying here but it was worth it. It's in close proximity to the beach. You can also take ferries to Vieques or Culebra from here. There was some cute restaurant within walking distance. I absolutely loved it. I would definitely recommend this place if you want a relaxing vacation and your own personal space.

An Amazing Getaway

We arrived to Puerto Rico late and Mr. Ortiz and his family were patiently waiting at the condo to give us the keys and show us the property. The whole family was very welcoming and showed us all the features and important information (like how to make sure we had hot water for showers.) They were very kind and extremely helpful, offering to field our questions at any time by phone. The few times we did call they always answered promptly.
Our first thought was that this condo is amazing! Very well decorated, with fun accent walls and comfortable furniture inside and on patio. Keep the doors open for that tropical ocean breeze! Unlike hotels which have always felt off or unwelcoming, this was like staying at a good friend's house. It was very homey! They made sure to pay attention to the important little details and we were provided with shampoo and conditioner and a kitchen with glasses, tupperware, plates, flatware, pots and pans and cooking utensils.
My girlfriend and I enjoy cooking and made good use of the kitchen, especially the coffeemaker. It was also a great way to save money so we could explore more of the island. There are several stores close by including Walmart, three grocery stores, CVS and Walgreen to pick up food or sunscreen.
For our needs, Fajardo was also an excellent location. It was easy to get to from the airport. We were very close to Seven Seas beach, Luquillo Beach, El Yunque rainforest and several marinas with snorkeling tours (check out the Erin Go Bragh III). You will need a car out here, if you're thinking of going without a car you might want to think again.
Everything about my stay, the property and owner exceeded my expectations, which is no small feat after spending nearly six months preparing. I would recommend this property to all my friends, in fact I plan on coming back with some of them!
