We stayed from Feb. 13 to Feb. 20, 2010. It was excellent.
First, the villa itself. It is an understatement to call it spectacular. We were astounded by the attention to detail. Dan and Joetta are to be commended for literally having thought of everything. I am guessing they know that, when you travel, there's always something you "just have to live with". Not at Villa Cecilia. Everything was thought through, and if you imagined you needed something, there it was (except an espresso maker!) The interior decorating was a delight. The leaf theme is brilliant, and the attention to detail in selecting everything, from the lamps and fans to the bed spreads, was impressive.
The girls who hosted us were top notch, very professional and reliable. Again, often when you travel, you get someone's phone number for help, call it, and get an answering machine. These girls answered each and every time like clockwork. The meet-and-greet at the airport and then the dock was one of the best things about the trip. Everyone knows how tiring it is to get off a plane (especially after lots of delays) and try to figure out what to do next. They were great.
You don't have to sell the idea of the IGA to visitors. We didn't arrive in time to get there, and were a little concerned. But the local market, which is just a few minutes away by car, was totally sufficient. I am guessing there are a lot of guests who like to barbecue ribs, or steak, or some more complicated things. We're not like that-- my wife is a vegetarian (and a fabulous cook), and, while I love good food, I'm also very happy with pasta with a good sauce. For the basics, that little store is just fine.
The island is magnificent and the people are wonderful. When you travel, you can run into locals who have that vague resentment about them. These people were open, helpful, and seemed genuinely pleased to see us. We agree it's our favourite place out of the all the places we've been for it's combination of untouched beauty, peace and quiet, and really nice people.
Beautiful place, beautiful island.
Owner's Response: Gary, We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the Villa Cecilia. I can appreciate that your culinary needs may not be as important as they might be to other travelers. We still recommend going to the IGA on the main Island, rather than be dissappointed with the small selection of food available in the smaller food markets on North Caicos. We hope to see you again next year.
