We offer a pet-free, smoke-free environment for our guests.

This is an amazing location location on a bluff above a magnificent cove, sandy beach and island. A short private path on the property leads you down to the cove. The location is 3 miles from Mendocino Village and close to restaurants, markets, activities, golf and hiking. The cottage is separate and private.

The cottage is light and airy, nicely decorated, very clean and so charming! Vaulted ceilings give an open feel to this romantic little house. It's perfect for two. It is well-equipped with electronics, including 2 Cable TV’s, WIFI, DVD player, stereo IPOD docking station, and CD player.

Wake up to a beautiful whitewater view!

SPECIAL NOTES; NOT suitable for divers or any wet sporting gear, RV's or motorcycles. Two adults MAXIMUM, no additional sleeping space.

The cottage is equipped for light-duty cooking, not major cooking projects. Oven cleaning is not included in our minimal cleaning fee. We supply covered baking dishes for the oven and there is an extra-large microwave oven.

Enjoy the scent of the ocean, see and hear the waves, and have a front-row seat for the sunset. And on clear nights, enjoy the moon shining on the water and an amazing array of stars.

About The Owner

We fell in love with Mendocino in the late 80’s while staying at an oceanfront vacation rental. In 1989, we got the wild idea to buy an oceanfront property and left our home in Sausalito to become “Mendonesians”. Since we both had jobs in the wine business which allowed us to work out of our home, we have managed quite well over the years thanks to the FAX-era of the 80’s, the dial-up era of the 90’s, and finally the high-speed era of today.

The cottage was almost totally rebuilt in the 90’s and was used as our offices for several years. We also lived there while we built our new house and have very fond memories of our years in the cottage. On sunny days, we liked to sit on the porch steps for our evening glass of wine.

We have only been renting the cottage since February, 2010 and so far it's been a 100% positive experience for us, as well as our guests. We give our guests the key and we usually don't see them again until they leave, totally relaxed and happy. Most people report that the cottage is like a decompression chamber and a great escape from work, home, and city life. This is always music to our ears!

PERFECT RETREAT

Home away from home - and a wonderful retreat. Spectacular view of Buckhorn Cove, and an easy walk to the beach. Wished we could have stayed longer. The bed, so comfy as was the sofa. The kitchen equipped nicely and sparkling clean! Norm and Ginny have thought of everything to add to the comfort of one’s stay. The privacy was so appreciated, only a deer or two walked past the cottage and bird watching a treat. One had the feeling of living amongst nature with all the amenities of luxury. We will be back!!!

At the risk of limiting our options to access further booking opportunities, we have to confess that Ginny and Norm have one of the most wonderful spots on the entire California Coast! First, the cottage is lovely and private, with updated appliances, well-appointed kitchen, cozy warm rooms, very comfy bed and more. AND, then there is that fabulous cliff-top view of the cove (the pic you see on the VRBO site is the real thing), with the sound of waves and wind in the trees. AND, the immediate access to the cove and beach, the island and the tidepools. AND, the perfect location to visit Mendocino just a couple of miles up the road, or Little River just a few miles the other way. AND wonderful restaurants just moments away. AND secret hikes revealed by Ginny and Norm, AND delicious treats on arrival. AND, most importantly, peace, quiet and beauty. So, come and stay, but please leave us a few days to visit again, too!!

Amazing Mendocino Experience

When my husband asked what I wanted for my birthday, all I could think of was a peaceful and romantic holiday in Mendocino. We've been visiting Mendocino for over 30 years. We've camped right on the beach, been pampered at upscale hotels, indulged at B&B's but our stay at Ginny and Norm's cottage was by far the most spectacular. It combined the best of all those experiences with unparalleled privacy.

The views are breathtaking, the cottage is classy and comfortable, and hosts make you feel like family.

My wife and I stayed eight days in this charming oceanfront cottage. Ginny and Norm greeted us when we arrived and truly cared about the quality of our stay throughout our visit. You can believe all the reviews for this property, these are two lovely people.

The cottage was very clean, private and perfectly appointed for two adults. The view is simply spectacular: crashing waves, beautiful sunsets. The cove was fun and safe to explore. Only five minutes drive to top notch restaurants and stores in charming Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

Thank you Ginny and Norm, we would definitely consider renting your cottage again.

Outstanding cottage with best views in Mendocino

My wife and I spent 3 nights here Oct 10-12. We had high expectations but they were even exceeded. The cleanliness, quietness, outstanding views, lawn chairs and views from dining table where we ate breakfast and dinner were the best in Mendocino (we also had one very nice dinner at Moosse Cafe but with only a partial view of ocean). We are accomplished cooks and found fresh fish and vegetables (and Mendocino County chardonnay) at the Harvest Store in Mendocino to make a memorable meal. Prepare at least one or two meals, eat at the cottage and you will not be disappointed. Go to the nearby state parks that overlook the ocean coves for more outstanding views and hikes. We will return and October was a great month for the weather. Roger and Gini

wonderful, relaxing stay

We recently spent 4 days in this Mendocino cottage. The views are spectacular and the cottage was perfect for a get-away. The owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome and showed us the way to the beach, then respected our privacy. It was very conveniently located, easy access to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. We chose to eat late lunches and then spend time on the porch with a glass of wine. Definitely will return, hopefully in January!

My partner and I recently spent three nights here and were blown away with the beauty of the location- the views out to the cove with its island and the Pacific beyond were memorable, as was the relentless pounding of the waves on the rocks below. Beauty, Tranquility and Solitude At Its Very Best

Beautiful, beautiful setting. The cottage was secluded and peaceful. The area is gorgeous, as is the entire Mendo coast. Definitely a stay and vacation to remember.

Some tips: Don't miss Russian Gulch State Park, just a few miles up the road. It was more beautiful to us than Maui was. Be sure to walk along the cliff side paths. The Mendocino Hotel bar was a great place to grab a scenic, relatively inexpensive but good dinner. Our experience at Le Petite Rive was not the greatest, not sure I would recommend it.

Ginny and Norm were gracious and absolutely unobtrusive! The cabin is lovely.One of our best experiences for a vacation rental! We will be back!
