Great place to watch fireworks!
We just stayed here for a Fourth of July extended holiday. We picked it because of the rooftop deck and the nice way it seemed to be decorated, but we weren't sure how we'd feel about staying in touristy North Beach.
After staying at this lovely apartment for 4 days and three nights, we're converted. This is an awesome neighborhood! If you stay at least three days and have a car, you can even have your own parking spot for free! That said, you probably won't need to use your car-- we were able to get around entirely by bus, cab, and our feet.
It was great watching the fireworks from the panoramic view of the upper deck. Like other reviews said, it doesn't seem to get used very much, but there were some friendly folks on the deck just during the fireworks time, and I had no problem getting a good view. It was cold that evening so I ended up being perfectly happy watching the fireworks from the gorgeous windows in the living room. I could see, just from the living room, THREE different sets of fireworks!
There's lots of food options nearby. Go to the legendary Liguria bakery for the best foccacia you'll ever have, available in many flavors. For lunch, try the Petite Deli, Gorilla Pete's Hot Dogs, or the incredible sandwiches at Good Luck Cafe in Chinatown.
For dinner, there's the Frascati (make your reservations well in advance), Allegro Romano, Il Pollaio, Cincetta, Melt! for fondue, Zarzula for tapas, or just up the hill for sushi at Okoze.
There's a produce mart, a cigar shop, Swensen's ice cream all steps away.
And for something REALLY different but absolutely delightful, walk over to Loving Cup for the best rice pudding of your life.
If you like drinking and the bar scene, you can go to Rogue Public House or La Trappe for your brews, or take some exquisite wine home from Coit Liquor. The famous Monk's Kettle in the Mission is an easy cab ride away.
Don't feel like going out for food? This place is within the delivery area of Victor's Pizza, which also delivers calzones, pasta, and chicken milanese. Give them a call if you don't want to deal with crowds for dinnertime.
Your hosts will be wonderful and accommodating and will help you with anything you need during your stay. You can open your windows to let in the bay breeze, and there's free secure WiFi as well.
If you're having a tough time deciding where to stay, trust me, you can't go wrong with this lovely, tasteful penthouse! It's a great value for the price, too.
