3 Bedrooms (Sleeps 4-6) 1 Bathroom

‘Lady Lace’ is a 17th century house. It is a three-level house with a total of 110 square meters living area. The facade is built in the traditional step-gable style that is typical of the finest Flemish Renaissance homes. It is completely renovated, furnished and fully equipped for your comfort. The interior, with original oak structure, is very cosy. Located in the peaceful Ezelstraat quarter, it is only a five minute walk to Market square and the Belfry Tower. The name ‘Lady Lace’ has been chosen for the lace-makings manufactured by the owner herself in reference to Bruges. You will love this relaxing resort and immediately feel at home. This property is available as a holiday rental home. Guests who want to visit Bruges will enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of the city.

“We wish you a pleasant stay in a magnificent Bruges!”

About Bruges: A little community was established between the 7th and the 9 th century on the shores of 'Zwin'. The first habitants who sought shelter there called it 'Bryggia'. The town developed around the fortress called 'Burg' (Borough) that the Counts of Flandres had built there. The town soon became an important trade centre, thanks to its communication with the sea. Its ancient architecture brought priceless elements to the European artistic patrimony. In museums, everyone admired the paintings of the Flemish primitives. In the 15th century, a Bruges school of painting developed under the protection of the Dukes of Burgundy which counts many brilliant masters: Jan Van Eyck, Hans Memling, Hugo van der Goes. Lancelot Blondeel and Pieter Pourbus are the most well known artists of the renaissance.Since the end of the Middle-Adges, Bruges lace is world-famous.

The presents of canals in Bruges gives the town a mild character.

Between Lady Lacy and Brugge, my husband and I were smitten with the whole experience. We usually rent apartments or homes instead of hotels but have never stayed in a place as charming as Lady Lace. We have already recommended the home to several friends and have plans of returning. We wish we had stayed longer!

Charming city, charming house

This past July we traveled to the wonderful city of Brugge and stayed in the charming and cozy Lady Lace. This was our first time in Brugge and the first time in Europe to stay in lodging that was not an inn nor hotel. Both were such a pleasure. The home is well situated, comfortable, well equipped, close to groceries (the weekly open air market is a must for delicious food), and within walking distance of most tourist sites and restaurants (or only a bike ride away. We are in our 60's and don't bike often at home, but loved biking around Brugge.) There were only two of us, but Lady Lace would be comfortable for more than one couple or a family. The owners provide all the necessary information when they greet you and in written form in the house. They are lovely people and their rental home reflects that. If we are ever lucky enough to be in Brugge again, we will want to stay in Lady Lace.

Excellent stay

We stayed in this apartment (townhome really) for 4 nights.

The house is located about 5 minutes walk from the main square.....and about 10-15 minutes walk from just about everywhere. The home itself is on 3 floors with 2 bedrooms being on the 2nd floor and a spare 3rd bedroom (with bunk beds) on the 3rd floor.

First of all the owners were very welcoming and friendly. The home is pretty and tasteful --- it has all the things you need. (There is no dishwasher --- not sure how many homes in Bruges have dishwashers). The house is clean and everything works. You should be aware that the stairs leading to both the 2nd and 3rd floor are very steep and so may not be that kid friendly for say under-10s. (Please note that I think most of Bruges is likely to have the "steep staircase" issue).

What else that maybe useful?

Bruges is a pretty but a very touristy town --- however, we did not mind being tourists in Bruges and did not feel that Bruges was a tourist trap (much of Europe is, in our view). If I have to list a few drawbacks, and i probably should, I would say the home is on a fairly busy street and there is no place to sit outside for a morning coffee; clearly the house does not have a canal view so maybe it is irrelevant. One other thing and this it seems is a Bruges-wide issue (at least in this area of town).....there is some sort of gutter/sewer smell that pervades the town (and home) every now and then --- maybe 2-3 times a day. Not sure what it is......seems to be a Bruges-wide thing as we felt it near the Markt square too. Maybe the canals, maybe the rains, maybe the sewers...who knows!?

Ok, we have described everything and the "good" by far outweighs the "issues"! And in fact I may be being overly meticulous on the "issues" --- just to disclose everything. Overall, I would recommend both Bruges and this vacation home without reservation. And again the owners were very nice.

Delightful

My husband, 3 and 5 year old daughters, mother and I stayed at this charming property for 3 nights. The house was larger than it appeared in the pictures and extremely well-stocked. Marie-Christine was so kind and helpful prior to our arrival - we were going to arrive on a Sunday afternoon and she was able to find a small grocery store within walking distance so we could have some food in the house for breakfast the next morning. The house is an easy 5-7 minute walk to the Markt, and more importantly for my chocoholic self...to Dumon Chocolatier :) Definitely a must see (or should I say must eat?) If we come to Bruges again, we would be delighted to stay at this lovely house again. One last comment, the stairs in the property are quite steep and probably not suitable for children under the age of 3. I insisted that both of my daughters hold an adult's hand going up and down the stairs because the railings had large openings that opened to the floors below.

Our stay at Lady Lace was, in a word, perfect. We loved it all---the wee little garden terrace in the center of the living area...the lovely framed lacework pieces (created by our hostess!)...the generous table, complete with complementary Belgian chocolates as the centerpiece display (they looked so inviting, we each ate just one a day to make them last)...the Belgian beer in the fridge.

And the location was spectacular. We just walked out our door and we were already "there"! A short distance to the left was our little market for breads and fruit and good things to fix for breakfast and lunch. A few doors down to the right was Ipou's little shop, with excellent French Rose for just over 5 euros a bottle---what a find. And he had ice cream and other goodies, so we were in and out of his shop all day, every day.

A few more blocks to the right was the market square---the hub of activity, including the biweekly market, which I loved! We enjoyed the canal boat ride...and the shops...and the amazing parade that we happily happened to be there to see. But mostly we enjoyed just hanging out in the market square eating frites, and walking the charming old town from one end to the other.

Thank you to our host and hostess for an absolutely wonderful stay at Lady Lace. They were immediately available to help in every way, and were very welcoming. We would highly recommend this charming little house to anyone planning a stay in Bruges.

Lady Lace was by far the nicest rental house that we've ever stayed at. The owners were incredibly kind and helpful and the house exceeded expectations. It was clean, well laid out and just a 3 minute walk from the center square of the town. We have already recommended the property to friends and rent it again on our next trip to Bruges - this time for at least a week!

We were a group of 3 adults and 2 young children, who adored the bunk beds on the top floor. I would recommend this to several couples or a family.

10 out of 10!!

Thankyou Francis and Marie-Christine for a wonderful weekend at your delightful house. Everything was provided to make our stay comfortable and homely, and the house was spotless. The location couldn`t have been better - just a 5-10 minute stroll from the main square. A guest book provided lots of local information and was very helpful. We would definitely stay at this house again. You must sample the delights of the Creperie across the road!

My wife and I were very pleased with the facilities, location, and host/hostess. Furniture and beds are comfortable. Lighting is great, something other places may not have. All dishes, cutlery, and etc. are handy The apartment is approx 5 minutes from the square, and withing one minute there is a grocery store, bike rental, and internet access...and a bus stop if you desire (every 20 minutes). Your hostess has a very detailed and informative book for guests, and she has several personal touches that are delightful and unique April, 2011. Gary, Charlotte North Carolina

My sisters and a niece spent a week at Lady Lace recently. We loved the house and the city of Brugge and hope to be able to go back for another visit in the future. The owners of Lady Lace are great hosts and were great about answering questions and providing information about Brugge. The house is very clean and very comfortable and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
