About The Owner

Hi! My name is Connie and I own and cherish the Garden St. House and Apartment.

I love this house!

The house and apartment have quite different personalities. Downstairs, the house has antiques, original wood floors from 1912, overstuffed couch and chair with arches, colorful walls and character.

Upstairs in the Treehouse Apartment, the design is modern, with red wood floors, curvy purple couch, convertible sofa/bed and a platform queen size bed with 3 skylights that connect you to the trees and the world outside. The skylight over the shower is the best! The glorious deck is surrounded by trees, and it truly does feel like living in a treehouse.

Come stay at the Garden St. House and Treehouse Apartment! It's a wonderful space for a few or for many. It feels like home, and has all of the comforts and more!

The Owner purchased this house in 2001
Why The Owner chose Austin

I bought this wonderful house in 2001 to live in because of the nearby parks, lake and its close access to downtown, 6th street and everything cool! It was built in 1912 and has original wood floors, which I found during renovation after peeling up layers of carpet, vinyl and tar paper. Joyous to find! They are beautiful pine floors that give the house an old country house feel.

I have since renovated it, taking out walls, adding arches and adding vaulted ceilings...and the apartment upstairs. It is now a combination of new and old. Bold colors complement the various rooms of the 1800 square foot downstairs house. The 'treehouse' apartment upstairs is an additional 700 square feet including a private deck in the trees with a modern urban design and red wood floors.

What makes this house unique

The big covered front porch of the downstairs house reminds me of the slower simpler days of the early 1900's when neighbors used to spend alot of time outside drinking lemonade to stay cool in the hot Austin summers, waving to neighbors and enjoying the occasional rainstorm while sitting under the protected large porch. Don't worry, I now have central AC/Heat to keep you cool and warm in winter...but you can still enjoy the rain and wave to the neighbors on this wonderful porch.

The upstairs apartment I built for myself so I could start renting out the downstairs area for vacation rentals. So the apartment is very nice! Now I live elsewhere and rent the apartment separately and with the house.

The apartment has high grade red wood floors, texured ceilings, peach and blue interior colors along with high end urban modern furnishings. The private entrance and private balcony in the trees give this apartment a treehouse feel. I lived there for about a year, and then have since started my own family and moved to South Austin.

That is why both the upstairs and downstairs are now vacation rentals but with a homelike feel. Downstairs you find the big country home with antiques, and upstairs you find hip, cool treehouse with a modern design. They can be rented together or separately depending on your needs.

Thank you for visiting my Garden St. House and Apartment Site. Hopefully I'll see you here soon!

Many smiles,

Connie

What a joy to spend the Thanksgiving holiday in
Austin! The Garden House was the perfect place for
our family of four. Lots of room to spread out, a
lovely porch, and the ideal location (within walking
distance of "Juan in a Million") all contributed to a
perfect trip. Can't wait to come back!
Owner's Response: I am so glad you enjoyed the Garden St. House AND that wonderful mexican food restaurant "Juan in a Million" located just 2 blocks away. I love the porches too. Come back soon!

A group of eight of us occupied the entire property during the ACL festival in early October. The house was perfect for our large group. It sure beat staying in a hotel. We especially enjoyed the upstairs deck and the visiting kitties. The house had all the amenities to make our stay comfortable and fun.

My son, his friend and I stayed in the garden apartment for a week in early August. The boys took part in a BookPeople camp at McKinney Falls, and we thoroughly enjoyed the comfortable, clean and cozy upstairs apartment. The location was nice and close to the city.

We enjoyed our stay in your comfortable home. The location was great - close to the hike and bike trail, downtown, and south Congress. Everything was provided and it was so much more fun than staying in a hotel. We can't wait to come back!
Owner's Response: So glad you got to enjoy the beautiful parks and downtown! And yes, SoCo is only about 5 minutes away. Many thanks! Connie Leaverton, owner

The Garden Street property was a perfect home for the weekend. Close to Downtown and in a quiet neighborhood. Nice porch and backyard. I would recommend this property to someone looking for a rental house in the city.

I just wanted to say thanks for letting us stay in
your apartment! We had a great time and really
enjoyed all the little things you did to make our
stay comfortable: coffee, shampoo, towels, etc. The
apartment was perfect for the three of us and a
quick walk or cab ride away from downtown. It was
a great way for us to experience the city of Austin
and the SxSW Film Festival!

For SXSW, my band and our crew rented the entire
downstairs and upstairs of this adorable house. It
just far away from the insanity of the festival, but
close enough for us just to hop over there before
our shows and drive back and forth. I was SO
worth it to stay in a well-kept, adorably decorated
home instead of a hotel with slamming doors and
housekeeping knocking at your door. For our down
time, we sat on the back porch in the little swing,
or upstairs on the patio. In the mornings, it was
great to have coffee (which she already had in the
freezer for us) on the front porch. The
neighborhood is quiet and calm. I've already talked
to Connie about staying on Garden street again
next year!

We love the Garden House! Everything we needed was furnished from linens and toiletries to pots and pans, coffee and tea, and even extra lightbulbs. The house is comfortable and eclectic...very Austin decor! The neighborhood is quiet and friendly and we especially enjoyed being such a short walk to the Hike and Bike Trail on Lady Bird Lake. Also, the location is very central, close to downtown and UT. This was way better than staying at a hotel. Connie was an excellent hostess, unobtrusive but always available if needed. We will definitely stay at Garden House on our next visit to Austin.
Owner's Response: Susan,
It was wonderful having your family stay here at the Garden Street House.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for the wonderful review!
