Also a 42'' screen mounted TV pivots out for viewing anywhere in the apartment. The bed area is carpeted for a more lush intimate feeling. About Dennis Decker

An enthusiastic New York and Harlem resident, always ready to give the inside scoop and recommendations on Harlem or NYC. Very involved in the neighborhood. A product, landscape and interior designer with numerous awards and items in national museums. In fact, the building has also been published in several magazines and appeared in films. Why Dennis Decker chose Harlem

This building is typical of the historic neighborhood. I was impressed that it still retained so much of its original form and material. However, I was very impressed by the atmosphere of the block, with friendly, open and involved neighbors.

What makes this apartment unique

The quiet friendly tree-lined street, proximity to express subway- only 4 stops to Times Square, closeness to neighborhood coffee shop and historic park, as well as the 125 St. corridor and Central Park.

I actually love sitting on the front stoop while having a coffee or a glass of wine. I love seeing the relaxed street life going by, and being a part of it. Since my block is dominated by private brownstones, rather than apartment buildings, it has a friendlier, small town feeling than most other neighborhoods.

It was a cozy and stylish apartment in Harlem! In particular, we felt welcome the very minute we stood in front of the stairs of your home and enjoyed coming back every evening after our tours through the different parts of the city.
We certainly recommend and shall be glad to contact you again when we come back to NYC.

I wish New York was more like your flat- smooth, sleek and sexy.
I do indeed want to come back and stay. I guess we have to sit around a table and come to an understanding of how I can live on the top floor. That bath is "wow." We only seen a bath like that in Madrid, well in a small town north of Madrid.
Thanks again.

And sorry about the noise. We were dancing in the room.

We loved this place. It is quiet and peaceful. Its design and details made us feel very good and gave us inspiration to walk around NY.
You will never find a better place or hotel than this.
We hope to come back soon.

Dennis met us when we arrived, gave us a very thorough introduction to the location and studio, and loaned us umbrellas. We were in NY for business and it was quick and easy to get to midtown using the express subway (just 3 blocks South). There were coffee shops, quick markets, and grocery also within blocks. We had the morning free on Wednesday. We worked for a few hours in the studio, which was spacious with excellent WIFI coverage. Then we walked to and through Central Park. The north end of the park is about 6 blocks from the brownstone. It was harder to return but that was more our lack of understanding of the subway system and interruption due to service due to Hurricane Sandy. We did take the subway back one evening (late) and it was about 9 blocks walk. We stuck to the main roads that were well lit and it was fine. I really recommend this studio.
Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you can return for a longer time next time. I've found that having loaner umbrellas makes sense, because who packs an umbrella when they travel?
I did want you to know that you should walk no further than 3 blocks if you get off at the nearest subway on 116 St. Perhaps you exited one subway stop too soon. Thanks for recommending the Studio!

Lovely place and really easy commute to Midtown

Dennis gave us a very thorough introduction to the studio, was gracious, loaned us umbrellas, and pointed us in the right direction for picking up necessities and getting on the express to Midtown. It was a little more complex returning at night for us but I think that was in part due to interrupted and changed services following Hurricane Sandy.

The building is charming and the studio was perfect with plenty of space, very comfortable, and quiet.

On our second day, we walked 4 blocks South to Central Park then spent a few hours walking through and enjoying the park.

The location really is ideal.

I highly recommend staying here.

Excellent accomodation! The piped in blues and jazz on the retro radio was the perfect ambiance for a stay in an area with such a rich history. This is my second stay in Harlem. As an expat of the NYC area, I am so proud of how this community has achieved urban renewal without losing its soul. I'll stay here again. Thanks Dennis!

What a great hideaway in a lively and and diverse neighborhood. Dennis was the perfect host, and the Parlor unit we stayed in was perfect. Very well appointed, comfortable, and comfortably accomodated my wife, daughter and I. We celebrated an early Thanksgiving, and Dennis graciously allowed us to use the unit for our dinner with friends and family. A truly memorable stay and we would definitely come back here. Harlem is a great area and very accessible to the rest of the city. This really was a home away from home. Thanks Dennis!

It was great, the apartment is just great. It is clean and tastefully decorated.
The metro station is just around the corner, as well as a supermarket and several restaurants. Everything you need to live is available.
A big thank you to the owner Dennis, who took care friendly and attentive to us. We felt like at home.
