gracious and generous, not fussy - water and sky and the simplest kinds of fun abound

This home's spacious, modern vibe is softened by country antiques, art, quilts and piles of wood ready for the fireplace. We've sung around the piano, toasted marshmallows at the fire pit and paddled about the lake. We've followed the flights of eagles and hawks. My son taught my grandkids how to use a rod and reel there, though my granddaughter thought playing with the worms was more fun. The house breathes comfort, calm and beauty.
Everything was clean and up-to-date. The photos were accurate. I'd have added pictures of a bedroom and bath or two to show how well-appointed and attractive they were. The driveway seemed steep but we actually didn't have any problem going up and down. If there were snow and ice, I'd probably park at the road.
The bonus is that this home amid nature is just fifteen minutes from Brevard. It's galleries, antique shops, toy store, old-fashioned hardware store, and clothing shops make for at least two days of exploring. There are excellent places to eat and a first-run movie house. I like the modern new County library and its garden. There are lots of places to pick up fresh local produce and mountain trout.
Beyond Brevard we've enjoyed hiking along waterfalls, going into Asheville for the day, and picnicking in the Pisgah National Forest's Cradle of Forestry.
Of course, you could just relax and make a walk around the lake your most active pursuit. We did this in the rain one day and enjoyed the shiny leaves, wild grapes, and mosses looking quite magical. Later, a hot shower and a pot of soup made us think that everything was right with the world - at least our captured corner of it.
