Who would have thought when I boarded a plane for Greece more than 20 years ago, planning on backpacking through the mountains and then heading north through then Yugoslavia I'd end up making Greece my second home?

But here I am, 20 something years later, running a fabulous Greek vacation rental business with historic homes & penthouses in Athens and traditional Cycladic homes on the island of Tinos, planning Greek travel itineraries and leading small group tours around my adopted homeland and loving the life that I am lucky enough to be living. Of course I did pick up an equally crazy, workaholic Greek husband along the way, as well as a stray Greek animal or two!

Carole Heiman-Kezios purchased this condo in 2003

Although I traveled around Greece for many years, after Basil and I married we started spending more time in Athens - usually staying with his mother. But I wanted a little pied a terre to call my own, and while spending a few months alone in Athens studying Greek I came to know the Pagrati Mets area, which I fell in love with. It's the perfect Athens neighborhood, full of squares (platieas), friendly locals, an outdoor farmers market three times a week - all within walking distance of the historic center and the best museums in Athens!

When Basil and I started looking for a place to call our own in Athens, I'd lived and rented enough Athens apartments to have some ground rules:

1. It must be walking distance (no more than 10 -20 min) to the Acropolis, Syntagma, Kolonaki & the museums.

2. It must have outdoor living space.

3. It must have a view that screams ATHENS. Of course an Acropolis view was first on my list, but the beautiful Cycladic St George church atop Lykavittos Hill is very beautiful as well - so either would do (and both would be smashing!)

4. Not many Americans know about the 'fotagogo' or air shaft that runs through most Athens apartment buildings. It is designed to air out the bathroom and/or kitchen, but also means that you have an early morning symphony from all of the units in your building ... not something I was willing to get used to (I guess I'm a bit of a spoiled American girl deep down)

5. Acceptable paper disposal after use. Yes, more of my spoiled nature came out when I started living 'local' in Athens and discovered that little sign in the bathroom: PLEASE DO NOT THROW PAPER IN THE TOILET (sometimes translated as: Please do not throw paper AT the toilet ....) Regardless, I needed to be able to flush my used paper ... and so, all of our homes offer the unique benefit of being able to flush it down!

Best holiday we have had in years

What a Great Apartment. We started our holiday in another apartment but the area left much to be desired !

We contacted Carole and she quickly and efficently made Acropolis View Beta avaliable. The apartment was great and we loved the neighbourhood !

The apartment was beautifully equiped and enabled us to entertain Helen's many Greek relatives in style. Pagrati was all we could want in a Athens inner suburb.

Great shops, great restaurants and the Tuesday fresh food market was a joy

For 10 days (Jan 2010)we lived like Athenians and it was the best holiday we have had in years. The apartment surpassed our expectations and we will stay again

Both Helen and I highly recommend AV Beta to anyone considering an Athens holiday

Plenty of room to spread out, great balcony

This apartment became our home away from home during the Iceland volcano eruption in April. We made a last-minute reservation and Carole was absolutely fabulous. This place really did feel like home...excellent through and through. All bedrooms and kitchen were great, had plenty of room to spread out, and the balcony was a favorite. Great neighborhood, everything from grocery stores to parks to restaurants to nightspots...you will feel right at home. We did!

We were absolutely thrilled with our stay at the Athens Apartment. It is nicely designed, has great dishes and flatware, comfortable linens, and great appliances--It also has a gorgeous patio in a fabulous location, Also, all your assistance from information regarding neighborhood places to eat and shop, to the lovely bottle of wine you left for us was delightful. We have never leased an apartment on our travels before, BUT THIS WAS JUST A GREAT EXPERIENCE. Again, thank you for everything.

Wonderful - hats off to them!

We are a family with 5 children and travel all over the world. We usually rent private homes and apts whenever possible. Of all the places we have stayed in, this one was the most welcoming. It was well equipped (did not have to limit oneself to the "one assigned towel per person" scenario, nor did we have to run out immediately to buy the basic amenities to be able to make it through the day. We had what we needed and felt very much at home. What was outstanding however, and what lacks in most vacation rentals all over the world is the "concierge" type of service that Carole and Basil offer. This was unprecedented. We were fortunate that they were in Athens at the time, however I am certain that if they were abroad they would only be a phone call away. They have a wealth of information at their fingertips. I really felt like we were visiting friends and they were genuinely interested in our time in Athens not just our time in their apt. Wonderful - hats off to them!

Highly recommended!

We stayed in one of the Acropolis view apartments
and had a
wonderful time. The apartment was well furnished
and we appreciated having free WiFi and free phone
service back to the US. Carole did a great job lining
us up with a driver for a day trip and airport service
and all the dos and don'ts of Athens. We would
highly recommend her apartments.

We are a group of 7 livelong mail friends traveling together once a year. The flat wad perfect for us to live in and to do the sightseeing in and around Athen that we wanted. We walked and travelled with the Metro to reach the targts in town e.g. Syntagma, National Garden, Acropolis and also outside town as Aegina and Hydra. The flat were conviniet for seven older boys from Norway.

A very special experience

When you rent this apartment you will find you are unlocking a door not only to a restful haven that is equipped to fill your every need...but also to Carol and Basil's world! And, lucky you, they will share it with you. Follow their gentle guidance and spot-on advice and you will be immersed in the real athens that pulses behind the guide-book athens that most tourists settle for.
Take advantage of the wonderful services of Yannis, of Costas, eat at as many of the recommended restaurants as you can manage, and everywhere you go say "Carol and Basil sent us" -- you will be given an extra warm welcome.
Then, at the end of your stay, like us, you'll count your blessings -- knowing you have enjoyed a very special experience.

Terrific for seeing & staying in Athens

Terrific for seeing & staying in Athens

From the initial contact with Carole through her follow-up information and finally during our stay in Athens this was a top notch, first class arrangement. The apartment with its wonderful view was well stocked with utensils and linens and the location could not have been more convenient. We were fortunate to have Carole and Basil in residence during our stay and benefited greatly from their advice and help. This was our first visit to Athens (one British couple and one American couple) and we consider this apartment "value received". We liked Greece very much and would choose the same arrangements should we return.

FANTASTIC

There were 7 of us travelling together. The location was great, all the major attractions were within walking distance and the cabs and trolleys were also close by. This is a very nice neighborhood, not touristy at all. These truly are luxury penthouses with great views. I have already recommended these to my family and friends, and I will definatly stay here again on my next trip to Greece!

Amazing! We had such a great time in this apartment, it had all the comforts of home. I have actually stayed in two of their apartments in Athens and both were equally perfect and I hope to return very soon. I have traveled through many european countries but have never stayed in such a beautiful apartment. We walked a lot every day in Athens and it was so nice to be able to return to the apartment and have dinner on the terrace, there are lots of really nice restaurants in the area as well. All of the bedrooms are very comfortable with such luxury that I didn't want to return home! We didn't need to take public transportation at all since we were so close to the center, but then again, if we didn't want to walk as much, the metro and buses were very accessible from this location.
