My wife and I rented this fantastic beach house at the last minute for a short break.
Checking in was easy and the only complaint was that the cleaners had not completed their job of making up all the beds and left some cleaning stuff out on the kitchen table. The owner could not be faulted for the cleaners letting him down like that and was very apologetic. He directed us accordingly to find extra linen, etc.
We had a great time and the 9 of us (2 adults and 7 children) were extremely comfortable. The house really is spacious which meant that even with that many people we were not on top of each other. The February Florida weather treated us very kindly which meant we took full advantage of all the beach-front location. The deck off the second floor is essentially an extension of the house and we spent most of our time out there. It is partially covered so that those who wish to either enjoy or escape the sun can do so. There is a fully-functional propane barbecue which was great for entertaining the extra family members who came to visit us from the local Jacksonville area.
The beach is fantastic and perfect for kids. Although it was not a private beach it certainly felt like it. We saw amazing sunrises each morning and the kids played all day in the sand and sea.
Bedrooms were spacious, esp. the master bedroom. The decor was a bit dated but we thought it added to the charm.
Location - easy access from Jax Int'l Airport and near the charming historic district of Fernandina Beach. Watch out at night - we were bitten by the notorious "no see 'um" gnats. The shops were charming, however. Food shopping - go to Publix, up Sandler. The Food Lion is pretty gross so avoid it.
The owner accommodated our request to stay on an extra night. That's how much we loved it. We would definitely recommend this house to those with a large family with lots of children. We were so sad to go!
