Seriously when people ask us about our vacation to the Big Island half the reply we give back is about what a great house we stayed in, for such an awesome price. The house is (or at least seems) brand new, and so is everything in it. The kitchen is fully stocked, the bedrooms each have their own very nice bathroom, even the beach supplies there for use are all top of the line. The view from the main lanai is an almost entirely unobstructed one of the ocean, and the hot tub is the perfect place to watch the sunset from. I would stay in this house again and again and again... I would live in this house if I could. Loved it, can't say enough great things about it, the fact that anyone would pay MORE for a lesser house or lousy hotel room at any hotel is absurd. We honestly thought the listing didn't do the house justice. It was immaculate and beautiful. The owner was awesome to deal with. I have recommended this house to anyone and everyone I could. Just came back from the Big Island and had a wonderful time at the Hale Kumu Kai. Tina was great in communicating with us from start to finish. She even accommodated us at the last minute when we came a day early (long story). The house was spacious, clean and neat, and the kitchen was stocked which was an unexpected treat (we cooked every single day!). The nearby gray sand beach is wonderful for families, we even saw a turtle in the tide pools! The best part was definitely the front row seat to the beautiful sunsets each evening. Captain Cook is about 20 minutes away, and that's where we did most of our grocery shopping. Kona is about 40 minutes away with lots of restaurants and shops. The lanai is wonderful with great views of the ocean. Two things to be aware of: as mentioned in previous reviews, the road leading to the house is extremely steep and must be driven slowly; there were lots of bugs outside in the evening so it would be best to use the bug repellant that is provided at the house. Overall, we had a wonderful time.

I'm torn between raving about the house, and not wanting to let the world in on our great find. We made a last-minute reservation but Tina and Tim made it easy for us to move in the same day -- communication was lightning fast and helpful; the owners are wonderfully responsive, as was their housekeeper who helped us move in. Everything in the house is new and clean. We felt like we'd found a luxury bargain -- our family of four was able to spread out happily for less than two hotel rooms would have cost. Everything we needed was already there. The only real "problem" is getting too comfortable out on the lanai and not wanting to leave...! We had our best-ever snorkeling, after several visits to the islands, at nearby Kealakekua Bay. Wow. You definitely need a car here, to get around to all the sights on the island but also to get to the house. The steep, windy road down from the main highway might not faze anyone from San Francisco but it took us a little getting used to, esp. on the uphill. The house is situated in a quiet, private neighborhood and the view from that hillside is fabulous. Gorgeous sunsets. We didn't want to be in a crowded or touristy area, and felt really lucky to find this house. We're already planning to come back next summer. We've rented vacation homes in the US and Europe many times over the past ten years, and this house became an instant favorite. Mahalo for a great stay, Tina and Tim!

Above and Beyond

My husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate our honeymoon in Hawaii at this beautiful home. It went above and beyond our expectations in its location, decor, furnishings, and all the details...from the snorkel sets and beach chairs to the blender and dishes. Tina was prompt in responding to our initial inquiry and made the rental process quick and easy. The housekeeper, Melena, calling the first day to check in on us and any possible needs was excellent. We would not hesitate a moment to return and have passed the word to our family and friends. We loved staying here and, from what we read in the guest journal, so have others! What a treat! We haven't had a conversation yet about our honeymoon in Hawaii without mentioning this house :) Thank you, Tina, we very much enjoyed our stay!

Hit there,
We stayed here for 12 day in May 2011.
It was extremely well equipped. The kitchen was great, even had a slow cooker which was great, after a whole day of exploring to be able to come home to a meal done. The sunsets were amazing to watch from the lanai.
The hot tub was nice too, except for it kept overheating but I am sure that is something the owners could fix in no time.
It was great to not be in the midst of a crowd.
All in all I cannot say enough good things about this home. They literally thought of everything! I wish I was still there.

We live on the big island and decided to do a staycation not to far from home. Location is beautiful and not to far from ho'okena beach park (great snorkeling and lots of dolphins) & City of Refuge. Pebble Beach is just a minute down at the bottom of hill. House was very comfy and clean. Lots of space and very relaxing. Loved it so much we extended our stay another night. Didn't want to leave. Highly recommended! Will be back in the near future! Mahalo to Tina & Tim for your aloha!

Great place and a great vacation

We were the first guests at this lovely, stylish and well equipped vacation home, stayed for 10 days and really enjoyed our stay. We booked last minute and Tina was ready with the paperwork and instructions in no time. Thanks again! The owners did a great job on this house, it is as new inside and outside. The owners description and photos represent exactly what you can expect and we thought about taking the home with us and use it at other vacation spots a bit closer to Europe ! We loved the big deck with the hottub, the new gazebo and the BBQ. Great ocean views. The road down to the house is steep but no problem, parking for two cars. No street noise as it is well down from the highway and very quiet at night. Yes it is about 40 minutes south of busy downtown Kailua-Kona and no restaurants or bars nearby. Fine with us, the Choice Mart in Captain Cook is 20 minutes away and a good place to shop, we had meals at home often because we wanted to enjoy the setting. Hookena Beach is 15 minutes by car and a good swimming and snorkeling place with restrooms, shower and a food stall. Very clear water. If you are lucky you can swim with the dolphins. We visited the volcano park, drove up to the top of Mauna Kea for the sunset and stargazing, spent time at the resort beaches, shops and restaurants in Kona and north of the airport. Played golf : Ocean course at Kona Country Club has great views, fairways and greens need some attention, Mauna Kea GC is a top site.
All in all: Great home and a great vacation.
