Top-notch at a great price

Let's get the location out of the way: it's rural. It says so right on the listing. It's maybe a 20 minute drive from Ithaca and less to Watkins Glen. The location is ideal if you're in town for wine country or have stuff to do around Lake Cayuga and Lake Seneca.
I don't think I can say enough about the cottage. The owners could have spent a fraction of what they did spend on construction, renovation, appliances, and detail, and it would still be more than adequate. A six-burner Viking gas range, gas BBQ, heavy doors, fantastic wood everywhere, plenty of patio furniture, and a swim-able, boat-able pond (boat provided!), a jacuzzi, two living rooms, very comfortable beds and soft sheets.
I stayed here for several days with friends before my wedding at the nearby Fontainebleau (it made a great staging area). Had I known how nice this place was before I arrived, I would have arranged fewer things to do in Ithaca and more entertaining at the 'cottage' as it is very well equipped for just that. The kitchen is enormous and has everything you'd need to make some great meals. There is a generous supply of linens and a laundry room if you need more.
The price can't be beat, either. We stayed here during Ithaca's high season, and the per-person cost was well below what you'd pay for any of the (mostly mediocre) hotels in Ithaca. If you absolutely must stay on the lake or on the commons, then maybe this 'rural' cottage isn't for you, but I can't think of any other reason why I wouldn't rent here every time I came up to the area with a group of people.
Finally, I have to confess that I wasn't the best tenant - we didn't leave the house in great shape and while we didn't trash the premises, we created some headaches for the owners and any big rental company would've socked us for our entire deposit. Instead, the owners were very approachable and straightforward with us about what we did and didn't do, and very easily and fairly resolved the problem (of our making) with us. It's not often you encounter the golden rule these days, but even if the cottage wasn't as great as it is, I'd go back for that reason alone. I hope I'd be half as awesome as these folks were if I rented a house to total strangers.
