We were very disappointed with the house, as it needed much repair and maintenance especially outside. The deck was horrible and you had to watch where you walked, My granddaughter's foot got stuck in some rotten boards. The yard was horrendous with all the weeds etc. The shrubs overlooking the ocean needed to be trimmed as they were partially blocking the view. Also they were grown up around the stairs going to beach and they were hard to get to The stairs could use some repair also. I'm surprised you have not received any complaints from neighbors as it is definitely an eyesore. The house was the right size for all of us, but it wasn't clean and the back bedrooms really smelled bad. With a property as valuable as this, I'm surprised it is not better maintained. I would not recommend this house.
Owner's Response: Thank you for bringing this to our attention! Now that the summer rush is past us we have been able to do a lot of maintenance on the house and property without disturbing our paying guests. The deck boards have have been replaced and there are no slivers. The weeds have been taken care of around the property including the stairs down to the beach. The shrubs overlooking the ocean have been trimmed way down to open up the views even more. The carpets have been steamed cleaned and the house has been repainted.

Great View - Lots of Room - Too bad it has run-down furniture and a dangerous deck

The view is amazing! The home had lots of space and the location was great! It is also very apparent that the decor was originally done with quality furnishings and an eye for creating an interesting and comfortable environment for people living there or visiting. However, the years have taken their toll and the home is in need of repair. The upholstery on the living room furniture was ripped in multiple places and the stuffing was coming out of a rip on one of the chair arms. The springs were shot in the couches, and you sunk to the ground when you sat on them. There was only one comfortable chair in the room. Some of the cabinet doors in the kitchen were warped and didn't close. The hot tub water was cloudy and very strong with chemicals, and there were several boards on the deck that had dry rot and were an accident waiting to happen. The beds were comfortable enough, and the bedroom furniture in good to very good condition, but it was hard to overlook the very shabby and uncomfortable living space. With some TLC this home could be a favorite place to stay. As it is, we're unlikely to come back.
Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review and 3 issues mentioned have been dealt with. Every piece of furniture in the living room was replaced with new furniture in June of 2012 (this guest stayed in Feb, 2012). Also, we switched spa service companies in June of 2012 that now checks chemical balances and cleans the spa twice a week instead of once a week ensuring a crystal clear and perfectly balanced spa for every guest, every time. The 3 boards on the deck that have some dry rot are scheduled to be replaced on August 26, 2012.

This place is great; The beach is wonderful, quiet, yet stretches out far enough to get a great workout if you like to run. We had children with us and I will say that they were never bored. The inside was very spacious and the beds were all queen and above. Plenty of eating utensils and nice stove, barbeque and microwave. We shall return. Small downturn tho would be the decor. The rugs and some of the furniture are on the "Iffy Side: We stayed there for 4 beautiful days. June 14th thru June 18th, 2012.

Absolutely Amazing Time at The Big Kahuna

We had an absolutely amazing time staying at The Big Kahuna in Arch Cape. We came here for my birthday and it was fantastic. The ocean views, beach access and hot tub made it the perfect coastal getaway. Each room in the house has a theme and the master has direct access to the deck with the hot tub. The crib provided made it convenient for us and our 16 month old. It would be the perfect place for groups too. We'll be staying here again for sure.

The Big Kahuna has the most incredible view....during high tide, it looks like you are floating in a house boat on the ocean--- minus the sea-sickness! The view from the hot tub is ridiculous, I could have floated around forever. A perfect respite during the winter storms. The house itself is nearly all windows on the beach side, and sprawling. Plenty of room for a large group, the softest sheets and most comfortable beds I've slept on in a loooong time! You have your own private beach access, a lawn, a big gas grill....everything you could possibly want to storm watch in comfort, and run back to from dramatic winter weather! Wish I was there RIGHT NOW!

Owner's Response: Yes, since the house is perched up on a small knoll, you get the most incredible 220 degree views imaginable. There is nothing quite like soaking in the hot tub while watching the waves roll in and crash on the beach. I wish I was there right now too!

House was great. Terrific views, good location, well-appointed kitchen, very comfortable. It's about a 10 minute drive from Cannon Beach and close to great hiking. The grill and hot tub are nice features and it has steps right down to the beach. We were there with two families, 4 adults and 5 kids and there was plenty of room for everyone. It's about as direct a drive as you can get to the coast from Portland too, so that's a plus. You won't be disappointed!

What a wonderful vacation spot! The layout of the house allowed everyone privacy, and the rooms were all spacious and comfortable. The common area was open and with all the windows, the view would be hard to beat.....beautiful! My grandson said he wanted to stay there FOREVER.....and coming from him, that's VERY high praise.

My family has been vacationing on the Oregon Coast for ten years and the Big Kahuna is by far our favorite place. The view is breathtaking and the house is gorgeous. We loved sitting on the deck watching the sunset or enjoying the beautiful scenery from the hot tub. The kids loved having easy access to the beach. What a fabulous vacation!
