Hi! I own and cherish the Garden St. House and Apartment. I love this house! My name is Connie, but I also go as Paprika, a nickname of 20 years or more.

The house and apartment have quite different personalities. Downstairs, the house has antiques, original wood floors from 1912, overstuffed couch and chair with arches, colorful walls and character.

Upstairs in the Treehouse Apartment, the design is modern, with red wood floors, curvy purple couch, a full size bed and a platform queen size bed with 3 skylights that connect you to the trees and the world outside. The skylight over the shower is the best! The glorious deck is surrounded by trees, and it truly does feel like living in a treehouse.

Come stay at the Garden St. House and Treehouse Apartment! It's a wonderful space for a few or for many. It feels like home, and has all of the comforts and more!

Connie 'Paprika' Leaverton purchased this house in 2001

I bought this wonderful house in 2001 to live in because of the nearby parks, lake and its close access to downtown, 6th street and everything cool! It was built in 1912 and has original wood floors, which I found during renovation after peeling up layers of carpet, vinyl and tar paper. Joyous to find! They are beautiful pine floors that give the house an old country house feel.

I have since renovated it, taking out walls, adding arches and adding vaulted ceilings...and the apartment upstairs. It is now a combination of new and old. Bold colors complement the various rooms of the 1800 square foot downstairs house. The 'treehouse' apartment upstairs is an additional 700 square feet including a private deck in the trees with a modern urban design and red wood floors.

The big covered front porch of the downstairs house reminds me of the slower simpler days of the early 1900's when neighbors used to spend alot of time outside drinking lemonade to stay cool in the hot Austin summers, waving to neighbors and enjoying the occasional rainstorm while sitting under the protected large porch. Don't worry, I now have central AC/Heat to keep you cool and warm in winter...but you can still enjoy the rain and wave to the neighbors on this wonderful porch.

The upstairs apartment I built for myself so I could start renting out the downstairs area for vacation rentals. So the apartment is very nice! Now I live elsewhere and rent the apartment separately and with the house.

The apartment has high grade red wood floors, texured ceilings, peach and blue interior colors along with high end urban modern furnishings. The private entrance and private balcony in the trees give this apartment a treehouse feel. I lived there for about a year, and then have since started my own family and moved to South Austin.

That is why both the upstairs and downstairs are now vacation rentals but with a homelike feel. Downstairs you find the big country home with antiques, and upstairs you find hip, cool treehouse with a modern design. They can be rented together or separately depending on your needs.

Thank you for visiting my Garden St. House and Apartment Site. Hopefully I'll see you here soon!

Many smiles,

Connie

We rented this house and upstairs apartment for an all girl weekend getaway and it was PERFECT!!! Centrally located to everything and the house and apartment itself is very well decorated. The house is just as it looks in the pictures and has just about everything you need. The house is very spacious and 12 of us slept there very comfortably and never felt cramped. Thank you Connie for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We will definitely be back again.

Thanks to all--we really enjoyed your funky little hideaway. It was clean, well located and very comfortable. I especially enjoyed the incredible water pressure as mine at home is pathetic. My mother has trouble walking and having a bedroom with its own bath worked well. I would recommend the Garden Street House to friends or stay there again.

Just stayed here with six friends. The house is wonderful--lots of rooms, nice furnishings, well-supplied kitchen, and very welcome air conditioning. It's conveniently close to Austin, and we found it an excellent way to get a big group together in one place.

What a great place to get away to for the weekend! I loved the waking up and seeing tree limbs budding right over my bed! The skylights, the trees, the decor, all very relaxing - I wish we could have stayed longer! We'll definitely be back - and with the kiddos next time!

My stay here was very nice. The location, just 2 miles from downtown, was extremely convenient. We rented the house and apartment and especially enjoyed the cute upstairs apartment. We did a lot of our cooking so it was great having use of all the kitchen utensils. I would certainly recommend this house/apartment to others.

Thanks so much Connie for allowing us to
stay in your Treehouse Apartment on
Garden Street. It was close to Downtown
and in a very quiet neighborhood. We
enjoyed visits each morning from the
cutest cat while having coffee on the
porch. We both can't wait to find time
to come back for at least a week next
time, as 3 days was not long enough. :)
Juan and a Million was great for
breakfast, and only a couple of blocks
away. We also enjoyed The Shuck Shack.
They had good food, and we loved the
vibe there. We will definitely be back.
Thanks again. Denise & David Christenson
Owner's Response: Denise, Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the apartment and the restaurants that are within walking distance. Glad you checked out the neighborhood!

And the cat, well he actually lives across the street but he's become infamous at the house. Everyone loves him. Come back soon!

I rented the upstairs apartment (sometimes called
the treehouse), and it's ADORABLE! I loved all of the
light that comes in from the skylights. The slanted
ceilings and fanciful furniture created a dreamlike
atmosphere. This place is great.
I was able to find great health food just two blocks
away, at Mr. Natural, then bring it home, to dine in
the treetop patio!
Love it here!
Owner's Response: Thanks Johanna! Glad you liked Mr. Natural. Its wonderful veggie mexican food...and a store! How cool is that?

The Garden St. House was great. 10 of us rented
the house as well as the upstairs apartment and
there was plenty of space for all of us to sleep. The
neighborhood is fairly quiet and as other posters
said, Juan in a Million is about 3 blocks away. It
was featured on Man vs Food for their breakfast
tacos.

6th street is about 1.5 miles away, which makes it
close enough to walk home in case you can't find a
cab, which is exactly what happened to us on
Saturday evening.

I would definitely look into renting this place again
the next time I have a big group interested in
heading down to Austin.
Owner's Response: Thanks John! I'm glad you liked the Tacos at Juan in a Million. That's interesting info about Man vs. Food! I didn't know that. There are many good tacos around this area, even vegetarian mexican food at Mr. Natural.
