Amazing Week at Villa Far Niente!
My husband and I just returned from a week stay at this condo at Sapphire Beach. It was exactly as the pictures showed on the website. The resort is in an awesome location on St. Thomas with close access to Red Hook and to the ferry to St. John. The condo was clean and exactly as we expected from the pictures. The newly remodeled kitchen looked amazing! We would recommend this for any couple or small group! The beach at Sapphire is awesome, with great snorkeling, swimming, and is well maintained. The resort has a marina as well for anyone who wants to do any charter boat trips to the BVI or around St. Thomas. The owner was extremely helpful and very organized with directions and restaurant recommendations! We rented a car and were glad we did- we drove over 500 miles while we were there! We loved the Banana Tree Grille restaurant at Bluebeard's Castle and also enjoyed the local restuarant - Fishtails in Red Hook. We enjoyed Iggie's Beach Bar at Bolongo Bay and also found a neat bar in Red Hook called Island Time Pub (ITP for short) which had great pizza!

My wife, son, and I stayed in this condo unit at the end of August. It was spacious for the three of us and actually would have been very comfortable with several people. The Condo is as advertised and is very up to date and clean. The best thing about this unit is its location to one of the best beaches in St. Thomas. The beach at Sapphire Bay is awesome and this unit is literally steps away. The snorkeling and views are phenomenal. The Marina, located right next to the unit, has jet ski rentals, parasailing, and day trips/excursions to BVI (which I highly recommend). The views of St. Johns from the unit's two decks are tremendous. Red Hook, with its excellent resturaunts and the quick ferry to St. John's is only minutes away. The owner was extremely helpful and his resturaunt tips were right on. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a wonderful place to stay in St Thomas. Not only is it an extremely nice unit and a great value, but its location and convenience can't be beat.

Celebrating graduation with the family
5 of us stayed in this condo and were very comfortable. It is updated and clean and we had no surprises. The owner was extremely helpful prior to our trip and we felt well informed about what to expect. The convenience to a beautiful white beach was phenomenal. We hardly went anywhere else because we loved the location we had. Fabulous snorkeling every day, jet skiing, parasailing all within a short walk. Well equipped kitchen, very convenient to Red Hook where we ate and caught the ferry to St John. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a wonderful place to stay at St Thomas. BTW, the sun comes up super early and shines in the condo windows, but the unit has
blackout drapes. Opening the screened front door and patio doors at night was wonderful- breezy and listening to the ocean.
One word of warning...the car ferry back from St John makes it's last run at 7pm. We thought it was 11pm (because of the guide book) and it caused a little issue.
We would recommend this location with no hesitation.

Refreshing retreat
Our family recently returned from our VERY enjoyable stay at Villa Far Niente. The condo was just as advertised and a refreshing retreat for the 4 of us -- a home away from home. We enjoyed the view from both balconies, eating meals on the deck, relaxing in the family room after a day in the sun, plus daily swimming, sunning and snorkeling just minutes from our condo. We also found it convenient to book our jet skiiing and parasailing from Sapphire Beach, and found a delightful horseback riding stable right up the road (a one-man operation, but one of the most delightful horse-back riding experiences we had ever been on!).
Villa Far Niente is very near Red Hook and we had a good time eating and shopping there, as well as taking the ferry to St. John's. (This is definitely a must when you visit St. Thomas. The ferry leaves every hour on the hour, but arrive 45 minutes ahead of your planned departure so you can find parking, purchase your ferry tickets and get in line. We actually missed our first ferry, as it had reached capacity, and we had to wait for the next one.)
We rented a car at the airport and were glad we had our own vehicle so we could easily explore the island at our leisure. We opted not to take the rental car to St. John's and were glad we didn't. The town has extremely narrow roads and it was easier to walk about and/or take a taxi (a must to visit Trunk Bay Beach -- which was absolutely stunning!) Something which surprised us, though, is that you drive on the left on the islands! The steering wheel is also on the left, so it took a little getting used to and everyone in the car had to remind the driver "LEFT" whenever a turn was made on the first drive from the airport to the condo! We would definitely recommend scheduling arrival on the island during daylight hours, as the roads are challenging at first to traverse and not very well marked. I am not sure we would have found Sapphire Beach resort in the dark! After the first day, though, you can become acclimated and find your way around the island.
Restaurants on the island are pricey, so we grocery shopped upon arrival on St. Thomas and were able to find all that we needed to prepare most of our meals at the condo. We did enjoy several dinners out, of course, for some fresh seafood and would highly recommend the Fish Tails Restaurant in Red Hook.
This was a perfect location for a relaxing, carefree family trip!

Incredible Trip, Great A+++ Property and Owner
Just had an incredible trip to St Thomas and I stayed in this unit. This unit is close to jet skis, great snorkeling, the $1 taxi route, a great pool, the ferry to st john, late night food, and pretty much everything you want to have a relaxing trip. The view is awesome, and I would absolutely recommend this property to a friend or relative. Restaurant wise, I would recommend fishtails, the island time pub, XO Bistro, and taco hell for your late night run. I would recommend everyone go to Trunk Bay in St. John as soon as they can for as long as they can. The listing was accurate and I would advise everyone making the trip to anticipate spending a lot of frustration and money on taxi's if you haggle or don't mind potentially getting overcharged. Renting a car is tough because everyone drives on the left side and the terrain/roads are black diamond as far as driving goes. Thanks for your help and a great stay!

Great View, Great Value
This was really my wife's and my first stay in St. Thomas. I think we saw more in the ten days we were there than most people see in one year. We even explored many of the local resorts like Frenchmans Reef, Secret Harbor Resort and Bolongo Beach Resort. After checking out the other places I can safely say that the views at Sapphire Beach are good as they get, the beach is fantastic and you can't beat the price. This is a definite winner. The only suggestion I would have is that it would be nice to have more closet space for clothes on the first floor. All and all the unit is very well equiped and had been updated nicely.
Mike the owner is great. He provides you with great directions, restaruant suggestions and other very worthwhile tips.
The only other thing I would comment on was that Mike suggested seeing this island legend called the Fiddler. I guess Mike does not know music, so I will forgive him for that.
When we were there the owner had ordered some new bedroom furtinture for the upstaris. Very attractive pieces, and a very comfortable king size bed.
If you like to explore I woudl highly recommend renting a car. There is so much to see and do on the Island.
Also I would recommend taking the excursion to the British Virgin Islands. You can make a reservation at the Marina in Saphire Bay. Very worthwhile.

Very Good, Great Location close to Red Hook
Have been to St Thomas 2 times prior to this visit and wanted to stay close to Red Hook because of the Ferry Service and the better beaches. We found "Villa Far Niente", which was priced really well and Mike the owner, was very good at communicating with us and responded to emails very quickly. There was an issue with the Internet device the prior week, and Mike quickly had a new one shipped down and we got it the day after we checked in.
We were able to sleep 5 (sofa bed), 2 downstairs and 3 upstairs (Sofa Bed and King size bed). The unit was as described and come with some nice perks like beach chairs and snorkel rental for 2 hours a day.
The Unit was clean and appliances were in good working condition.
Sapphire beach has good snorkeling and pretty good swimming. Being only a 2 minute drive from Red Hook was great for the bars and quick access to St John by Ferry.
There were only 4 things keeping me from making my review Excellent.
1. No land line to make local calls
2. Internet service is from AT&T and is 3G speeds. With no cell phone service from Verizon (Only AT&T and Sprint have coverage - didnt want to pay crazy roaming fees), the only way I could make phone calls was over WiFi on my Android phone. Problem is that the internet speeds were way too slow to have a proper voice conversation. 3G data speeds are slow and it was somewhat painful to just load websites up. I dont know the situation in St Thomas for high speed internet, but it would have been nice to have a good fast connection.
3. Fans had remote controls, but they were the same exact model, but on different floors. If you tried to turn one on, the other would turn on. Same goes for turning them off and different speeds.
Other Note: There was one thing I wish the unit had and that is a washer/dryer. It was an inconvenience since there is no room service and you have wet clothing/towels for a week that need to air dry in the bathroom.

Great condo, relaxing resort and amazing views!!!
I think my title says it all. The condo and Sapphire are great. Even on the "cruise ship" days the beach wasn't that crowded, and we were there during winter break for most schools. The snorkeling is amazing on the main beach. Unfortunately it was too windy/wavey on the the "E" beach, so we didn't get a chance to check it out. Red Hook is right around the corner with restaurants and a ferry to St. John. Definitely make a day tip to St. John. We took our rental car over (nobody cares) and loved it. Make sure to take Mike's advice on the restaurants...he was right on for all the we tried. Don't miss Fish Tails!!!

Great view and privacy
The owner was great at accomodating our request. The property has a great view of the ocean. Highly recommend it if you are looking for privacy, without all the noise and crowd. It is not directly facing the sapphire beach (that part gets a little crowded during the day). It takes less than 2 minutes to walk to the main part of sapphire beach. Very close to red hook.

We decided that as the kids were getting older that it may be fun to do something else for the holidays rather than open up underwear and socks. We booked for December 21st through the 27th of 2011 and so glad we did it. It was awesome!
The beach in front of the building E is somewhat separate from the main sapphire beach area which gets busy during cruise days but is still a ton of fun to walk down to and hang out at.. We spent some days at the beach area in front of the building E, some days at main sapphire beach and sometimes we traveled to Coki beach or downtown for shopping.
The unit was spotless and the A/C in the unit worked great. There was always a nice breeze if you wanted to sleep with the doors open. The unit was clean, had comfy beds, sheets, towels and everything we needed minus food which we went to publix for. We usually ended up somewhere in Red Hook for dinner but had pizza delivered once or twice. We had lunch several times from the place between building b&c and it was always great but can't recall the name.
Sapphire Beach on most days has staff running up and down the beach taking drink and food orders which is really nice but only on the main part of the beach. There's nothing like sitting on the beach with a trusty cooler and relaxing though.
The venues at Sapphire Beach Resort are currently closed because of some dispute between building owners or something like that, but it didn't affect our trip at all. We probably saved some money by bringing our own drinks and stuff. Maybe someday they'll re-open :) The grounds were well landscaped and spotless. There was always someone cleaning something it seemed.
Being an avid snorkeler, the snorkeling right in front of building E was excellent. LIVE coral, elkhorn coral, brain coral, sea fans and tons of cool fish kept me snorkeling about 4 hours a days. Sometimes just floating around at near the shore you'd come across some puffer fish. The water was very clear there.
The view from our balconies was breathtaking and waking up in the morning and having coffee while looking over at St. John was terrific. A night cap on the balcony proved just as exciting after a day at the beach.
Overall a fantastic place and trip. I can't say enough nice things about Mike and Margie as they made us feel like we were going to our own place and provided tons of info before our trip. We really can't wait to go back next year..

Owner's Response: Mark, I think you discovered the best kept secret of Sapphire Beach - the fact that the best coral and fish are actually on the "E Beach" side of the reef out by the Point. After visiting and sailing around the US and British Virgin Islands for 15 years, I'm convinced that Sapphire Beach truly has world class snorkeling that rivals anyplace in the Caribbean.
